so is Type- 81 coming in or not ?

Not at all reassuring when firearms tech at the RCMP "guess" what design a specific gun is...

Who said they ever saw one? There was a time they would take details on the teller's word alone.

Swiss Arms rifle comes to mind. AP80 as well.

When the full auto ban happen in 78, they didn't have everyone send in their full autos, and the type 81 didn't exist yet. I highly doubt they've ever had one, more likely they got info second hand on this one and added it to the list. The BATFE did inspect at least 4 of these in semi auto in the US. Prior to the import ban coming in.

Good point.

The internal pics I've seen online show a recoil spring like an AK, a bolt carrier much like an SKS, and a gas system that looks like a cross between an SKS and a vz58.

Bolt carrier is nothing like an sks, please find me the picture of the bolt you found because last I checked the sks doesn't use a rotating bolt

A bolt carrier, and a bolt, are two different things.

I can see what fenceline meant, from outward appears it does look like the sks , there is no piston attached to the carrier like on the AK and the cocking handle looks almost identical to the sks.

Some american refer to the type 81 as the grand child of the sks.

The dragunov is prohibited as an AK variant. The medved rifle is a variant of the dragunov's system, yet it is non restricted.

That very example shows that a gun can have a similar operating system, yet be classified differently.

Rotating bolt and short piston don't by themselves make a gun an AK variant.

Not to mention, the AK isn't even short stroke piston design; it's long stroke piston.

Someone else ask TI for updates they must have some contact with the rcmp

And what makes you think that asking them for updates would uncover information that they would not share with us on their own??

No wonder they're sick of you nagging....
