Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

The black is 1 7/8, the white circle inside the black is 1 1/8. Today was less useful, bit of a variable crosswind and headwind.

The results are still similar, the Federal is the cheapest, has more bullseyes, but more flyers, the RWS is the most expensive and the most consistent. Sort of, lol. I'm not going to call a preference for awhile yet, this is too much fun. All four are performing much better than the bulk ammo I started with. Today was crappy out behind the barn, I had to answer a phone call, when I came back out my targets were covered with snow. Bleh!

So,

You are getting 1.25 groups on avg at 70yards, in the cold and snow with what looks like a 3x9 scope and stock rifle?

NICELY DONE SIR!

No sir, it's a Mueller AVP, 4.5-14, the extra bit really helps! But yes, stock rifle, all I did was clean it. Really pleased with it, as are you. But thank you very much!

Great thread! just the info I need right now as I got my NS522 in the mail last night! can't wait to start polishing the trigger etc. AND I have the day off tomorrow!!! hope its not windy!

Cold and windy as hell out! so I'm taking it apart...

Barrel channel opened up as previously mentioned with a socket and sand paper. toxic Chernobyl oil removed from everywhere,
trigger apart. 'Speedy sharp' is the exact width of the channel that the spring slides in! cleaned up that channel nice in minutes! then used a dremel with a polishing wheel on everything!

This thing is like gun lego! even caveman could do it! ...or I guess little Chinese kids...

That tiny little Chinese spring is tough as nails... gonna need a new 1 when I find out what works for sure!

I didn't get a chance to 'bed' it but what I did for now was just put 1 of the washers on each side of the stock. I had to slightly dremel flat the areas in the top part of the stock where the receiver fits into so the washer would sit flat. then grind off 1 side of the washer that sits at the back into almost a 'C' shape otherwise it hits the front screw that holds the trigger group to the receiver and make the holes not line up.

Just happened to have an older Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 sitting on my desk so I slapped it on there! can't wait for nicer days to shoot it!!! well, the fun is over for todays day off.. time to cut wood!

You're picking a crappy day to cut wood, although it'll split easier at this temp I suppose.

Have trigger, will travel...

Sooo not funny, but fitting! I have been wanting to have a trigger over-travel function on the Eggroll. I like an over-travel on my offhand rifles. I just do. I took some pics as I went, so anyone who wants to do the same can see how easy it is. It is easy due to the nature of the trigger. The over-travel screw is able to mount at the front, so that is easy peasy.
What? Really? An over-travel screw?? Yep, like butter! And best of all this mod cost about $.23. For those who have been reading my posts lately, I have been planning another build. The Eggroll mark 2 and this one will be based on a benchrest platform/style. I need a fully adjustable trigger that will go in the ounces, so lets just say I am close.

Anyboo..

USING THE BERETTA SLIDE RETURN SPRING IS NOT ADVISABLE. I had one end of the spring slip off during testing. This was rather annoying, as I had to disassemble the entire group. I feel this is due to pne of the springs "arms" being too short and it really doesnt offer enough (you can see it in the pic) purchase on the trigger. I am not going to continue with anymore testing with the 92Fs spring.

In the pics you can see the Beretta 92F slide return spring as a trigger spring. Using that spring I am in .5lbs range. Too light for Sillohuette use, but I wanted to show everyone. It is oversized and needs a bushing, but I will not be using it permanently. I used a #4/40 tap and I used a brass screw and set nut available at Canadian Tire. The drill bit size is 3/32. I was going to skip the set nut and just thread it in, but after a few tests I decided the nut was the way to go. I will be changing it out to a hex head bolt when I get time. The rifle survived a full bump test with nooo issues.

You can see the location of the screw here with the cover off. Be sure to factor in the safety movement before you drill.

Closer....

With the wee nut:

Full frontal:

All done up. In case anyone is wondering, this mod does not affect the fit in the stock what so eva! It will just drop in.

For those wondering,

Next will be an adjustable sear, and an "enhanced" mag release lever, as the factory one is not what I like.

Hows that????? An adjustable sear you say?

Yep. Done like dinner.........

Spot the difference? Of course you do! That wee spot
Was made for an adjustable sear. The real reason for the set nut on the over-travel screw was to offer more adjustability based on the sear contact and to accept the new trigger return spring. If you notice, I made the sear adjustment screw accessible from outside the fastened trigger guard. That way all I have to is remove the action from the stock and adjustments can be made. Observant readers will probably notice yet another trigger spring. I am working on two separate springs next. One for the actual trigger pull and one for the sear reset. I am going to make the sear adjustable for pull weight and leave the trigger pull set and non adjustable. This way I should have full adjustability (within a small range) of the overall trigger pull. The spring for the actual trigger will fit around the over-travel set screw and will be a coil type. It will need to only be very small, as its main function will be to reset the trigger to the sear. The sear will be more of a challenge, as I have made an adjustable plunger for it, but getting it so it can be adjusted from outside the sealed assembly is my main challenge. It will also be of a coil type, but I am not 100% convinced it needs to be adjustable yet. I may not, as only further testing will tell.

What accuracy can we get out of these guns? The guy that did the ammo testing over at rimfire center, would those numbers be about as good as it gets? I was always happy with the varmint falling out of the tree, not so much with paper. Sort of "minute of varmint" lol. Target shooting is new to me. Pillar bedded and free floated last night, hope to try it out later.

I haven't been able to test much ammo since the ammo supply in these parts is nil. Shot reasonably well with cci standard vel though but thats nowhere to be found also.

Here are some groups at 100m. I quit when it started to rain and Federal Auto Match shot the tighest groups so far. Please forgive the look of the target, as it got pretty wet! I had got the best results at 50m using Fiocchi SV, CCI Blaser and Federal Auto Match, so I decided to take it to 100m. I ran put of Fiocchi, so that was out, but the Federal clearly shot better. This is most likely due to it being slower. The top two targets are the federal.

After a round of shooting CCI Blaser and how hard it is to chamber I think an oversized bolt handle is in the Eggrolls future.

Mmmmmmm...

But what style?

...

Here is a short vid of me shooting a practice spinner offhand at 50m with the Eggroll. Just in case there are some doubts about the accuracy. This was using Winchester Wildcats for the first time. The spinner is 2in. Sorry for how dark it is, but I just propped up my iPhone on a target stand, as the range was strangely deserted.

And yes, we do get the occasional snowfall on Vancouver Island.
