M16 Selector on Semi AR15

Nope - not to my knowledge, although it might get interpreted as "relatively easy to convert" but then, so did a CZ858 receiver

I'm not sure on this Sir.

The way I see it, a lower receiver that was milled out and drilled for the sear would be a prohibited firearm would it not? What would be the difference then between a restricted stripped lower semi auto and a prohibited stripped lower M16 receiver? Nothing except for that space milled out behind the trigger group and a hole drilled for the sear pin.

It's the same reason we can't have CZ, Swiss Arms or any other rifle that is capable of mounting parts that go full auto with the parts simply removed or not installed. The M14 would be a perfect example I think, if it were so you could legally own an M14 with the auto selector lever and knob just removed so it could only shoot in semi auto which is not the case at all.

Maybe a touch of a grey area but we all know well how the RCMP would interpret your milled out lower lol......

you also need the other parts that won't fit as you have to grind out the receiver ie the full auto cuts... It's more then just a switch. Its a few more moving parts plus the space to fit them and holes on the side to hold them in place. I've hand both of them side by side to compare them before and they're very differen't in the way they work now this is a shop that makes guns for the military and they wanted me to see the difference so they showed me. You can also just look it up online as many people have m16 in the Usa. Just search m16 field strip then do the same with an ar 15. You need the right hammer as well it's differen't in how it works.

Aye, like I said, you need the auto bolt carrier, the hammer with the sear notch, the auto sear, the auto sear drift pin, sear spring, auto disconnecter with the longer rear "tail" the auto fire selector and a milled out lower receiver behind the trigger group to allow space for the mounting of the hammer sear. Also obviously the hole drilled through in exactly the right spot to mount the sear with the drift pin.

Not easily converted at all.

True...you need the other parts installed so that grinding the selector doesn't engage the disconnector. But all the parts will fit without mods except for the auto sear. You need the 3rd hole for that (as well as the sides milled back enough to accommodate the width of the sear).

That kinda depends. I've done several of them and it really doesn't take all that long. Maybe 30 - 45 minutes with the correct equipment and taking the time to make sure things are properly lined up.

Why would you go through the effort of machining your lower unless you had the intent of installing an auto sear? That is the question that would be asked.
Like most things in life if you can think up a reason that won't make you look like an idiot in front of a judge have at it.

If you wanted to make an M16A4Gery?

How far could you go without being illegal in Canada? People get caught up on the smallest things, people go through the trouble of having their AR15 re-roll marked to say M16, so wanting everything except the last thing that would make it illegal isn't a stretch. I would want to get as close as possible too if I was making a civilian legal clone.

I think even if you have a FA selector in your rifle that the odds of the RCMP taking your rifle until their experts clear it would be high. The Mountie would simply see that the selector goes to the auto position then good by to the evidence locker. I had one in an AR15 for 15 years. Then again I did make a few mistakes back then. Now mods.... please lock this up before we fuel the imagination of the RCMP.

I agree with Moe. Many police officers have very little idea about firearms, and all it would take is for one of them to flick the selector over to the auto setting, and it would be gone. Most of them wouldn't have any clue what to look for in the actual mechanism.

Well take it most of them don't have a clue about firearms, how would they even know it's on rock n roll setting? Unless you re-stamp your receiver with the words "Auto".

This is a No No...

well I just spent about half an hour trying to find the law that says owning an auto sear is illegal and I couldn't find it. if someone has it or a link to it could they please post it.

owning it is ok. having it in the firearm is not.
When the RCMP tell the Judge they made it fire full auto , it won't matter how they did it.
its your $40,000 lawyer bill that gets you.
then you find out that your crown prosecutor and lawyer play golf together.

Do you need a full auto upper receiver as well? Or does the drop in auto sear not need one to work? Just asking as I've seen some 6920's with the FA upper and some without.

There is no full auto upper. If you see a reference to a FA upper, the reference is to the forward assist.

What about the relief cut at the rear of the cut out in the upper (horse shoe shaped relief cut above the area of the auto sear) - I've seen Colt and other uppers without it. It allows the 2 halves to close because the auto sear is just a smidge taller than the side of the receiver.

How does this apply to simply buying/installing a FA trigger/trigger group in my AR15. I have a full 20" gun which I want to make as close to an M16A4 clone as possible. Minus the roll markings and the actual auto sear this would allow me the closest possible clone.

Take caution if you install M16 fire control components in your AR15, you may be inducing a hammer follow condition. Just the selector, makes no difference.

When a FA selector is tuned to the FA position without an auto sear to delay the hammer, the hammer will follow the bolt and double, or triple. Add some soft Federal primers to the mix and guess what ...

FA components, except the DIAS, are legal to own and instal in Canada. But when an RO flags you down with a self induced full auto malfunctioning gun, it may not go so well. You may be charged with manufacturing a FA weapon.

Aware of this fact, just simply don't turn it to auto and fire.

I'm interested in this undertaking because to get the feel of a true genuine U.S. GI M16 trigger one would have to actually have an M16 trigger in the first place.

Now where could I get one?
