What makes this gun better then an 870 Police? Wanstalls is asking over 1300 buxs for this gun, is it just a case of paying for the name Wilson Combat? Looks like an 870 to me.

Wilson takes it apart and tunes the bejeezus out of it. Trigger job, internal dehorning and polishing. Plus the sights, which would cost $175.00 + $100 in labour to install. I believe they put a big safety and better follower in it, and give it some tough coating to boot. I've had a chance to fire one and you can notice the difference immediately. It cycles like glass. I'm sure a little of what you are paying is for the name, but it's a step above a Police Magnum. I know a couple people who swear by them in 3-gun matches. They've actually come down in price, I remember them being closer to $1500. All-in-all it's a specialist tool, great for competitive shooting and the like, but if you shoot for fun-a Police Magnum is great. I wouldn't spend the extra unless its specific purpose related.

Wilson shotgun is very nice but not a must

Its like normal wine and high class wine. Both are wine and get you drunk, but one is abit smoother.

Bhahahaha, I'm a huge sucker for stuff like this so I bought one. I'll compare it to my 870 express tactical so if you want an unbiased opinion PM me in about 2 weeks.....

well time to bump this thread as i did a search and still havent seen any threads on it other then this old one, maybe more people have them now.

Nice looking SG but like others have mentioned it ends up costing more cause someone has to tune it and make it pretty.
Personally, I would go for a 590A1 18.5" GRS leaving plenty of $$$ for ammo, mag tube extension and a full Vang Comp Systems mod (by Casey@TacOrd).

We don't realize how lucky we are in some ways here in Canada. In the US, the SGT/Wilson is a deal, because you can't get a skilled smith to build you the same gun for less, here we have amazingly skilled 'smiths, working for a fraction of what they'd get in the US. Here, you can get Casey to build you a full house gun for about the price of the Wilson BP gun, in the US, it would cost much more to get it built for you. Canadians get terrific work at bargain prices from our top name 'smiths. In case you're wondering, NO semi-production, sort of custom gun will ever beat a gun assembled by one skilled man, to order.

This. I have one of the surplus Wingmaster 870's in Casey's shop now, getting the works done. Can't wait!

Just got my refurbished 870 shotgun from Casey At TacOrd. Old Wingmaster, refinished, and Trijicon sights front and back. Looks like new and functions great. Now, I didn't ask him to perform a lot of work on it as I know the older guns are pretty smooth, especially after some use. Add a side saddle, maybe a one shot extension, and you are at the door for less than $800(including the cost of the shotgun from Casey). With lots left over for ammo, and other toys. I am not deriding Wilson at all. They do great work, as a friend down south has a couple of 1911s and shotguns from them. But, you can save a bit and make it your own custom job for a lot less up here. Casey is busy, and quality takes time, but you will not be disappointed with what you get.

Of course if the looks really bugged you, you could always get Murdoc to nitro-carburize it for you.
