Stun Cane!

As Canadians, and presumably as Canadian firearms owners, we all need to be conversant about the applicable laws.

As a favour, here is one relevant section on this item.

You will want to take a look at the Criminal Code, the Firearm's Act and anything else that has a direct bearing on the things you do.

From SOR/98-462 (You know this one as the order in council that banned a bunch of guns because they look scary)

Former Prohibited Weapons Order, No. 3

6. Any device that is designed to be capable of injuring, immobilizing or incapacitating a person or an animal by discharging an electrical charge produced by means of the amplification or accumulation of the electrical current generated by a battery, where the device is designed or altered so that the electrical charge may be discharged when the device is of a length of less than 480 mm, and any similar device

So an electified extendable baton is ok too?

As a person who needs a cane to walk around, I'm very interested in this product. Thank you for your review, I will be further investigating YouTube videos later.

The NIMH batteries lose something like 1% of their charge per day, so you need to charge them monthly.
Someone has never heard of "LSD NIMH": low self-discharge. Keep about 85% of the charge over a year. Like these: http ://www .mahaenergy. com/imedion-aa-2400mah-4-pack/

One thing I noticed about this cane last night... It no good as a cane for people over 6 feet tall. I am 6 feet and with shoes on, it feels a little too short even at its fullest extension.

Do we really want to see a stun cane running around on LSD? It might be funny at first, "wow man, the walls are breathing" but when it starts trying to zap all the snakes it sees everywhere, it would be a real downer.

I thought that too. I saw CBSA agents confiscating one of these of the TV show "Border Security". As long as it cannot fire when its OAL is less than 480mm it should be legal.

Of course, the person who it was confiscated from could have said it was something he wanted to go beat up the neighbourhood bully with, then it would be a weapon dangerous to the public peace and not only would it be confiscated, but the owner would be looking at a heavy handed punishment. But anything can be a weapon in this charge... But I digress.

Only real drawback I see is - even if it weren't a stun cane, it Looks kinda like a studded club.
I could see being stopped just on looks alone.
That aside, it is a fun toy.

A few times now I have fired the cane for several seconds and then checked for residual charge after switching it off.

Definitely wince inducing to do, but I didn't feel any charge.

If designed right, it *should* have a bleed resistor bridged across the capacitor that feeds the tip for safety so you don't inadvertently zap yourself after it's been charged up. An unbridged capacitor of quality can hold a charge for a looong time. In use, the voltage is well in excess of what is designed to leak across the resistor, when powered off, the charge should bleed in a brief time. How long depends on resistor rating, and charge capacity of the capacitor. How long you hold charge on shouldn't matter Baby Seal, once charged it is charged... you hold power on it until you zap the bad doggie that is after you anyway, but after releasing the button, try touching it in 10 seconds. If no snap, then try 9, etc... until you feel a tickle. Sort of work up to it...lol. I want one for my Dad when they are in next. Missed the last bunch.
