Really? The end of cheap SKS's?

On this past Wed. , our local Canadian Tire had 57 Russian SKSs in stock , all hardwood , no laminates.......they said they had more coming in , but the ones they already have are not big sellers.......they are priced at 175 each......what will happen in the future is hard to say....?

Where can I find more? If people know where to find cheap Sks overseas please email me master@westrifle.com
If you can give me phone number or email of a person that sells them I would appreciate it. Also I can pay you a commission !

Do your own leg work. What I was saying is there are lots on store shelves here in Canada. I haven't seen any panic buying. There are plenty over seas. Don't try and start a panic so westrifle can sell overpriced SKS's. canadian tire and wholesales
Sports sells them for about $175. I bought one from whole sale sports in lethbridge for $179.

It is a normal flow of commerce, the foreign suppliers will realize sks are selling well so they raise their price point,, that is passed off to us and we decide if it is too much or not!! If the flow slows down because less people want one at the new price point then the suppliers have to decide whether they are ok with that or drop prices back down!
One thing for sure, if prices go up, the quality of the rifle will have to be darn good! Only top grade SKS are worth any more than we are paying now!

Did you really just tell the main importer of the SKSs in Canada to do their own leg work?
Those companies that are selling those SKSs got them from somewhere, and let me tell you... it wasnt directly from overseas themselves.

I dont think anyone ever denied there were plenty overseas... its the part of getting them here now and at the same price we've seen them for.

Regardless of if you agree or disagree with the "possible" upcoming shortage is personal opinion. I choose to believe the guys that deal with the importation, considering it is their business. Sure, it could all be a big hub-bub to up their prices and rake in more $. But the SKS seems to be a big seller despite the worry about shortages and price jumps, so I cant see them being that desperate to stoop to that level.
I dont forsee the SKS dropping in price from the $200 mark, so I could really care less if I pick some more up now at that price point; easy to make my money back if I so choose to.
I only wish I had been in firearm world during the Enfields and Garands being cheap.

You don't have to pay $200 just hit canadian tire or whole sale sports. They buy in bulk to give you the price of $175.

Yea that would have been nice! If the garands and enfields were around now at say $800-$1000, not near as many people would be willing to put out that kind of money,, there would be a limit to how many! Same with the SKS, the market/ buyers have been buying for a good many years now so if the price goes up ( depending on how much) a lot less people will buy in! At the price they are now, I may buy a couple more, however if they go up ,I personally am out. With my budget or lack thereof, I will be concentrating on ammo for the ones I already own, that is really important because you only buy the gun once, but you have to keep buying ammo, even if it goes up in price (or stop shooting your gun, which is why most folks buy sks, to shoot them). I am a buyer of Ammo now and rifles when they go on sale!

That is exactly right. If the price of SKS's goes up I will pay tops $280. If more than $300 I will step up to something better like a svt-40 or a keltec the SKS is meant for the beginner shooter when he gets his gun permit and wants a fun cheap rifle to shoot.

It seems that most of the rifles I've been seeing at Canadian Tire appear to be the ones brought into the country by Westrifle. Just because you see them at a store, doesn't mean that store is buying them in the Ukraine or Russia or wherever. There are in reality only a few importers of these guns, and when they say they can't get anymore it translates to the supply drying up at your local store. Yes, I can still buy locally, for now. But where is the next batch coming from I ask you? You seem to think you know....

And the stock at our local Canadian Tire store was cut from 80 guns down to 25 in the last four days, still think they'll last long? The cabinet in the front is still full but the shelf in the back is now empty. We will see the SKS again, but I'm glad I got a few for under $200 while we could enjoy it....

The SVT that comes from the same warehouse in Ukraine as the SKS? Good luck with your reasoning there....

I don't get it. I can go into almost any gun store and buy a SKS. I can go online and buy a SKS or crate if SKS's. there is lots. Canada will put trade sanctions on Russia but we can still get SKS from Eastern Europe and china. If there is a shortage of SKS. China will ramp up production. But it seems that they shutdown production in the 90's. so no need to panic no army wants to use the SKS in combat plenty to go around. I remember I the 90's the SKS lost its cool factor and everybody said they were junk. Just in the last 5 years peoe think they are cool again. I personally never liked them until about 2 years ago.

Please refer to CanAms comment in regards to the Chinese SKS - they(Chinese) want double the price for them, so they have(CanAm and other dealers) said "No thanks"; hence there being no Chinese SKSs coming in. So relying on China to ramp up production wont do much.

The supply here is strong... NOW. Westrifle (the main importer of SKSs in Canada, who distributes them amongst the dealers you go to for your stock), has said the next batch of Russians will be more costly due to various reasons (one being our dollar, second being the Ukraine issues). Its great that you can find them NOW, but in a few months when supply drys up, where will they be coming from?

I don't think we're fully on the same page here, a lot of us understand the SKS is readily available; what we fear for is that the availability will be decreasing as the consuming of these fine rifles continues, but the supply decreases. When that happens, the market will fluctuate due to supply and demand, and increase prices even further (as what happened to the Enfields and Garands).
One time there was plenty, and no one thought they would end... and now you see a Garand for $2000 when it started off at $100.

By reading some of the later posts in this thread, it looks like some of you are starting to get it. Surplus firearms and ammo comes and goes in Canada like the wind. These so called expert importers/dealers at this point in time of the so called SKS crisis are using smoke and mirrors marketing to increase their margins, that's the bottom line.

If these rifles were to be produced today... they would exceed $800... ... they are solid rifles made to military specs... even if double the price from retailer.. a good deal.... that being said there are many around.... and that in it's self keep the price down... thus the retailer will not import if he can not make a buck.. If people hang on to them.. there value will increase... but the market is flooded right now.. every gun owner has one... and if he doesn't the next guy has 5 of them... these guys will eventually sell 3 or 4 of them when they realize there is no point in owning 5 of the same thing... they will keep there favourites and sell the rest....... be a long time before the SKS sells for over a $1000.I will have died of old age before that happens.... just my 2 cents

Bingo!

The demand is there, but the market is saturated. The SKS will never be a "investment" firearm in Canada. Maybe 50 years from now it will go the way of the Lee-Enfield where pricing is concerned.

Although, I do regret selling some of the really nice rifles Westrifle imported last year.

Ya. I know just the other day I saw a crate of Garands next to the crate of Enfields at my local gun store. They come and go like the wind.

The SKS won't be around forever in the current supply.

The CT in Leduc only had 2 SKS's left when I went for a crate of 7.62x54r yesterday, but I was told that they have a lot of containers out back which haven't even been opened yet, hopefully there are more in those containers as I want more lol,3 is not enough for me,I have 3 daughters and would like to put by an SKS for each of them, the 3 SKS's I have so far are for me lol.
