This is a known problem. Thankfully, Westrifle has gone back to using rivets. Not all magazines are affected, but a larger than acceptable number are. I don't believe there is a reliable fix. I also have a 1950 from Canadian Tire with a stiff follower pivot point. They may loosen up with time, but in your case, I would return the rifle or magazine. Any magazine limiter that affects the mechanical function of a magazine is not a good idea, and counter-productive. If you keep the SKS, you can always purchase a 5/20-round Tapco magazine, and keep the original as a paper weight. Alternatively, you can buy somebody's frankenpinned magazine, swap out the follower arm/follower, and add your own rivet at the bottom of the magazine.
