1 MOA Challenge 2012

This look like silly but you but i want to be sure... Rifle is a Nemesis 308 takedown (backpack) it weight 14 + pounds with glass, bolt action, bipod, treaded with a brake (can be shoot unbreak with a muzzle cap or a supressor), trigger 6 ounces to 4 pounds, 20 inch barrel, i am good to go with that set... I am always happy to help shooters get into LR shooting and a number, locally, have.

I am in Summerland, BC so no long distance ranges here. Kamloops is the closest and a great range and crew.

But I shoot quite often and happy to take a newbie out and show them the sport.

The best thing anyone can do is contact their provincial range that shoots F class (or any other discipline if that is your interest). Every province has at least one club/range. Here you will find lots of help and likely, the shooters who post on CGN - its a pretty small family.

There are matches almost every month and they will ALWAYS welcome new shooters. If you plan ahead, I bet you can even find a shooter to lend you their gear to try (just pay for their ammo and barrel wear) or to compete with.

Back on topic....

Maynard, would you consider having a rifle available for shooters who want to try a full on F class rig? maybe their rifle isn't up to the task and they might get discouraged.

I believe the jist of the original post is 1 MOA challenge. As long as your rifle MEETS the caliber requirements for the range be it OFF OF THE SHELF or CUSTOM you are good to go.

I am pretty sure what Maynard is getting at is PUT UP or SHUT UP. SO MANY claim they have a tack driver or sub MOA rifle. So he is challenging those that do to come out and show the world.

No excuses.

I believe you are wrong. Having been an executive at an archery range, I have an idea what Maynard is up to. He is not challenging everyone to a "put up or shut-up" match. I think he is proposing a fun wager (cost 75.00) to get people to try the sport. The "MOA challenge" is just a cool way to get shooters to come out, meet some new people and try something different.

Like most things, a lot of people do not know how much fun they are missing until they try it. I guarantee someone is going to have fun with this, meet some like minded and most likely very helpful individuals.

Is it a challenge? YOU BETCHA! Is he really challenging people to put their money where their mouth is? I got a 5$ side bet that says otherwise;)

Either way, my schedule has been turned on it's head this year with my wife going back to school. That said, I am going to do my best to attend one of these shoots and have a go at at Maynard's 75.00 and some bragging rights. THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL I CAN LOSE!!!!!!!!!!!! (that's becuse MOA or not, I am going to meet some cool peeps, shoot my gun at ranges I don't often get to shoot at and hopefully learn something about doping the wind from the guys that have been doing this for years). It's a win win for everyone!
 
DsrtRat you may be right on your thoughts. I stick to my interpretation. There is one thing that always sticks out in my mind on CGN. It basically is "I want to be a sniper" even though people do not come out and say it. I also read this SO MANY times, "shoot my rifle at ranges I NORMALLY do not get to shoot" That is why I wonder why there are not more people in the short range game.

The excuse that it is boring or cost does not cut it.

When you are trying to sink EVERY bullet into the exact same hole does not make it boring. The rifle has to be in tune and then the rest is up to reading the wind and the shooter pulling the trigger at the right time.

Since this is the internet and some things get lost in type, i am going to refrain from saying what i want to say in response to your post until i get exactly what it is you are trying to say.

I don't get the "sniper" comment. Does people saying that somehow bother you? Or, do you think that people that haven't competed don't have the right to discuss precision rifles?

Like i said, sometimes things come off wrong on the internet but what i get from your post is that you are somehow elevated above people who don't compete or are pop bottle shootin wanna be snipers.

As for cost, i don't know what your realities are but mine are these: major bread winner for the household. Wife back in school. Two kids in grade school. Price of gas,hydro and fuel all gone up in last year. Add it all up and cost is probably my biggest hold back. If it weren't, i wouldn' t be shooting a factory 223. I would have every calibre known to man with NASA made glass on every gun.

Like i said, it's hard to tell what you were getting at but it sounded like you were looking down your nose at a lot of people. If not, then chalk it up to foibles of the net. If by chance you were, it reminds me of some great archery shooters that were much better than the average joe but were so arrogant and pompus that they did far more damage to the sport than their all-star shooting could ever do good.
 
I believe Maynard's motivation is 2 fold... The Challenge part is a friendly put up or shutup a la cycbb486, and a come out and enjoy, have fun shooting, and compete a la DsrtRat.

I prefer to use the word "Challenge" rather than wager. I am not making any money on this deal:mad: The cost for you to play covers the "ORA guest fee" for the day and your share of the marker/beach sentry fees. If you just come out to shoot for the day, it will cost you about $75.

First for $75 it will give you a taste of what we do, in a relaxed range setting. And what you can expect as far as safety goes on a DND range. Secondly you will meet people from all walks of life that have the same interest that you do. It doesn't matter if you are the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, a doctor or a student, the common interest is accurate rifle shooting. Thirdly, it might get you interested enough to join your PRA and get more involve in competition shooting. Remember I have $75 of my money on the line for every shooter that wants to test their skills.

The SHUT UP part. Well, if you claim your rifle shoots sub-MOA then 1 MOA should be easy right?

The "challenge" is were you could get something for free if you can shoot a 1 MOA group. Some skill is required, sorry I can make it as easy as roll up the rim:p

Jerry, the ORA does have some .223 F Class rifles in stock that we use during our Intro Days. For this challenge I am hoping guys will bring there own rifle with loads tuned for it. This way there will no excuse that the rifle, ammo, scope was not up to the task and we are just collecting their money:cool:

My thought was for those that think their rifles shoot well but don't, might want some redemption by shooting rifles that do.

Also, for those not sure if they want to commit can try the game for very small investment.

Either way, it is a great idea and commended.

Try to get some "range" time at a golf club, coaching, equipment rental and a day on the course for $75.

Here is a shooter who is promoting his sport and PUTTING MONEY WHERE HIS MOUTH IS.

How cool is that !!!!!!

I am new here and I am not sure about any thing, but seems like this is for newbie’s correct? I will be interested. I hope the rules will be posted for this and looking forward to having some fun and meeting new people. Where do I sign up? BTW it will be my first time shooting out door's...and I have .308, can I use that with a Rest or do I have to use a bipod?

This is open for anyone, new or semi-experienced. This is only open to non-ORA members (Ontario Rifle Association). I am not looking for our top shooters to come out an relieve me of my money. Norm and Terry, Gord and a few others, don't think I will let you slip by is you haven't renewed your membership yet and try the non-member routine;)

I am not selling memberships, just promoting the sport. You can decide after if you had enough fun to buy a membership.

Now speaking of ORA memberships. There are 2 ways to become a member. First is to pay a membership up front for $153. Second way to a pay-as-you- play. Geust fees are $45/day plus and marker fees and or marker/beach sentry fees. If you come out as a guest 4 times and pay your $45+ you become a limited member by filling out the membership form and sending it in to the Membership Secretary.
