Well if your buddies did mods to their 10/22s and went back to original, they either bought junk, or probably shouldn't be playin gunsmith! If they lost accuracy and bought quality components there are only two reasons for accuracy loss. 1 is they shouldn't be playin gunsmith and 2 which is probably the case, they cant shoot.
Yep... Bedding and proper support is the #1 problem area that 'homesmiths' may not understand or do properly. For the 10/22s I just put together for team mates, I had to do the bedding in 3 steps with intermediate mods in between. That is a bunch of work but the results are excellent.
The best parts in the world rattling around, are not going to lead to a positive outcome.
2nd most common problem is poor ammo choice. I see this time again, bulk HV ammo being run through a match barrel/chamber and getting horrid results. Understand that many true match setups are designed to run upper grade match ammo... read that as expensive... and then the right type of match ammo.
So a homebuild that is not adequately assembled, coupled with the wrong ammo can easily lead to results worst then a factory rifle....
