10/22 magazine wobble, I've got a fix for it. - VER:2.0 (POST#1)

I hope this is the reason my aftermarket mags work like crap, zip ties however seem too band-aid like. What about putting in a couple of pop rivets so its not sloppy looking or maybe a thin aluminum shim the width of the mag epoxied in there. Or build up the mags themselves with a shim instead of drilling out your gun.

I think the ties act as a spring applying pressure... not sure if a shim would do the trick...maybe?

My new 10-22 likes to stove pipe even with an aftermarket extractor, I gotta rip it apart and see whats going on in there.

Pop rivets might work, if plastic; aluminum/steel rivets could end up damaging the mags and causing a high-point (sticky area) when inserting/removing mags as well as not provide the tightest fit.

Epoxy and gluing in my opinion looks much more band-aid like.

Forget modding mags; mags can easily end up costing hundreds of dollars depending on how many you have to mod.

"Zip-Ties" sounds band-aid, but they are very strong; almost every car/motorcycle has zip-ties holding wiring looms together and in-place.

...as mentioned the zip ties also actually provide some "spring" to assist in providing a really positive fit; the ramped edges also allow for smooth inserting/removal of the mags. It's pure win.

The ideal solution of course would be for better fit from factory ;)

This looks really useful. I've been dealing with rounds smashing into the bottom of the chamber for weeks! Thanks for the tip, I'll try it one day and hopefully it'll solve my ammo-wasting problem.

I had the same problem and used your first version. I also stretched the spring behind the stud that holds the mags in. Now the only time the zip ties contact the mag is when removing it. The factory one has the be pryed out though.

Thank you for this tip. Some of my mags wobble so much that i can remove them without engaging my mag release! Just looking for a little clarification.

I've tried this with my Sr-22, however, if I use the small zip ties they do not contact my magazines and if i use larger ones, I cannot release my mags without stripping it. I've tried to find a medium size tie with no luck (Homedepot, CT, Lowes and Rona). Can you guys tell me what size ties you're using and where you got them from? Also, anyone know where I can get a stronger mag release plunger spring?

Thanks,
Larry

The most elegant fix of course would be a much stronger/stiffer plunger spring.

I'll send an email to WOLFF and see what they think as I am sure there are a lot of 10/22 owners with similar problems since Ruger went to the plastic trigger housing.

Kidd offer a high tension spring option with their plunger for the 10-22. Dlask has them in stock.

Your use of zip ties to take up the clearance is brilliant….
