10/22 vs TM-22. Is the 10/22 overrated/outdated? (not for sensitive 10/22 fanboys)

I never chased tight groups before but then I picked up a 10/22 competition custom shop and got 10mm groups at 50m with a $40 Simmons scope and had an awakening.

Also that was with new production Remington thunderbolt on a bag rest which made the range day extra unusual. I switched from S&B standard and the target went from typical 22LR scatter plot to clovers which was jaw dropping. I need to set up and collect the data for the 1/2 group thread.

I went with the 10/22 CSC because I didn't have any desire to "build" a gun and spend lots of money on shipping and fettling.

The features and the sum of the custom shop's work is excellent and delivers as much accuracy as anyone can expect from a 10/22.

My guns like Aguila so the need for premium ammo is moot if you ask me.

Imagine what you could have done with a proper rilfe... ;)
You nailed it tho.."as much accuracy as anyone can expect from a 10/22"
Expensive junk... is still junk.

10/22 is a proven product... I hate the magazines though.
The derya is a cruder, cappy triggered with no upgrade options, but... its box mag fed.
If/once you get it to run reliably its a decent choice for action shooting.
I don't find the trigger to be crappy, mind you I don't have any real high dollar aftermarket triggers to compare it to so perhaps I don't know what I'm missing.

I have no reliability issues with mine beyond what you'd expect when using crappy bulk ammo in any semi auto. Give them a steady diet of a more consistent ammo like CCI and they're good to go.

I've had a RIA Derya TM-22 Feather for around two years. It has an excellent 2 lbf trigger pull. It already has about 2,600 rounds through the pipe and it never had any malfunction (https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/threads/armscor-derya-tm22-feather.2438899/). It's a very accurate little 22LR rifle.

The MAIN appeal of the 10/22 platform is customizability.

They are like "leggo" guns. There is an almost infinite amount of options out there...

- Barrel materials and lengths.
- Chassis options. Folding, wood, polymer, metal, AR style etc.
- Tons of trigger options.

Etc, Etc....

Do you want to build a 8" barrelled takedown model for your backpack?

Do you want to build an AR type replica?

Do you you want a fancy coloured wood? Thumb hole stock with heavy barrel?

Do you want a carbon fibre superlight build?

You can build anything you want. That is the main reason people love them! Myself included.

It's a semi not a bolt gun. It will never beat a bolt gun for accuracy... but that's true of any calibre.

You can get pretty good accuracy with the right build though.
Can't disagree with that... it's just to get that pretty good accuracy, dollar for dollar, a fella should skip the fluff and head towards a decent bolt rifle that's up to the task, and then get real accuracy, not just pretty good.
A lot of fellers get sucked into 10/22's thinking they will have something when finished, accuracy wise... and they don't. Never will, either.
