1022 Tommy Gun Kit

thanks for the quick reply!!

where does one get a 12'' 10/22 barrel? ive actually never seen any! does the kit need a 10/22 barrel with front site or will a target barrel do?

im sure im not the only one wondering if the 10/22 they have will work with the kit or will they hafto get a new one to buy your kit or atleast get a new barrel

The only barrel that does not work with the Thompson kit is the target barrel due to its diameter. The foregrip will not fit properly. I guess you could carve it out a bit more to fit the target barrel. The standard Ruger barrels all work fine. Some retailers, including ours, do carry shorter barrels. I bought an 8.5" barrel from FabSports last year for my MP5 project. As stated earlier, our retailer is working toward being able to supply 12" barrels hopefully by the time we are ready to release the kit. But it is just one option. Your standard Ruger barrel will be a perfect fit.

With regard to the front sight, you won't be using the front sight at the muzzle of your barrel anymore. The new front sight is located at the front of the receiver. Its small and unobtrusive but fast and easy to aquire the target and it doesn't take away from the Thompson look.

Wow what an epic I just read all 34 pages and now am quite excited about the prospect of tommy 22. I don't even have a Semi auto 22 but I would buy one just to put this kit on it. Am waiting with baited breath for news of the release.

The Pictures Are In!!!!!

As promised I have put together a couple of shots of the the prototype Thompson kit using a standard Ruger 1022 with the full length barrel. After that you can start customizing it by doing such things as adding a 12" barrel for that authentic military look as well as swivels and a sling. Or, you can buy the same length barrel as what your standard 1022 has but in a "finned" model with a walnut vertical fore grip for that 1927 Chicago version. So here they are as promised:

I got the idea on January 14 2007 and by Jan. 8, 2008 this is how far I had progressed:

This last February I got a major burst of enthusiasm which translated into this:

And three months later it's almost finished. This shot below is missing the fore grip. I am using my WWII surplus fore grip just to fill in for a bit

This is the second prototype Thompson built 3 weeks ago. We are manufacturing from this version. In fact, manufacturing actually started two days ago. This prototype is still missing a little bit of detail so you will have something to look forward too.

That did it!!!! There's my next gun purchase:dancingbanana:

I want!!!!! (what's gonna be the damage to the wallet??):)

I am really impressed. I wonder if a threaded 12 inch barrel couldn't have a tall front sight made for it?

I take it the mags are standard 10 rounders, or are they functional stick mags?

What's your plans for what to include in the kits?

Great job again Mr AR15!

I don't know if this answer was specifically given, will the 50rd Promag drum fit the canadian version or does the lever thing interfere with the receiver.

Something that is really makes this design top notch and makes me want one is the way they have greatly strengthen the barrel reciever joint. The way it is built there is more supprt for the barrel then there is on a free floated 10/22 or on alot of other attemps at making 10/22 shrouds. This shroud will actually make the 10/22 a way more roboust and servicable firearm.
Take a look at the construction where the shroud/barrel and hand guard come together. Really a piece of manufacturing art. No one is performing this many milling steps on any production firearm these days!
can't wait to have one.

As I recall from earlier in the thread, they are standard 10 rounders with a dummy mag glued on.

No, it does not fit on.

THAT IS CRA-ZY!! :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:

Is the straight mag going to come with the kit?

On the pic that has the short barrel, is that an 8.5", 12" or a 16" barrel?

Fish

The kit shown with sitting in the case with the really dark coloured WWII foregrip has the 12" barrel. The pics on the white background is the kit with a standard Ruger barrel however I'm not sure which length barrel that is.

Now I know these pictures will have sparked numerous questions but I can't answer anymore questions for the time being as I need to get these kits built:runaway:.

We will be making a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT on CGN in the Rimfire section when we have them available for sale sometime near the middle to end of July. There will be a web page that will list prices and options, how to order, lots of pictures and an FAQ with all the answers you are looking for.

And now its time for me to get back to work.

John

I was wondering something...this might be of a bigger scope than just about this kit, but I'm sure others might be wondering so I'll ask anyways.

I don't own a 10/22 yet. I'd want to maximize my $$$ and avoid doing the following:
1) Buying myself a 10/22 carbine
2) Buying myself a 12" barrel
3) Buying mr ar15's kit

Will it be possible to purchase a "ready-to-use" kit that includes a short barrel and receiver/etc? I'm thinking this might change the category of items you're selling, going from just selling a piece of wood (kinda) to selling an actual firearm.
