1022 Tommy Gun Kit

Fun Gun Kits Update:
Export approval request is in processing at US Gov't now.
Most likely to be approved for export as "sporting goods".
The approval should be received in 3 - 5 weeks.
New clip-on stick extension for the original Ruger 10/22 magazine; prototype shown; available soon.

There are elements of both of the kits that I like.

I like MRAR15's receiver and trigger group, but I like the Fun Gun's handguard bracket and the magazine extension is very well done.

The finned barrel is from Tactical Innovations.

The T.I. barrel does not include a front sight.
The front sight pictured on the T.I. barrel is in production now, available in about two weeks.
It slips on over the muzzle and secures with two hidden set screws underneath.

Custom finned barrels for the Fun Gun Kits will be made later this summer, for now the T.I. barrel is the best option.

(FYI, I know barrels are sometimes tough to get in Canada, these finned barrels can be turned down from a .920" target barrel).

Has Rick been able to convince any more dealers to take a look at this?

Dealers did not want to commit to any quantity orders without customer orders in hand; or share any costs for the export fees. Customers did not order so neither did any dealers.
Therefore, I am proceeding on my own: export approval / license / paying all export approval fees etc. It's quite an investment in time, paperwork and money, but the commitment has been made and it is happening now.
If all goes as planned, and export approval as sporting goods is granted, you will be able to order through the website and I will be able to ship directly to you.
The export approval comes first, it's in process now.
Research continues on Canada's tax requirements on imports so all the hoops are jumped through and properly addressed. Export is not easy!
Of course, I will post again when export is approved (or not) so you know what's going on.

As it stands, I like how the trigger group is enclosed for realistic look on Mr Ar15's gun, but Fun Gun's Gun is pretty sweet too. Should be a fun summer for 10/22's!

If you think the trigger group looks realistic, wait till you see the finished product. It will incorporate almost all of the same detailing that you would find on the real Thompson SMG. The pics I put up on the internet and on this thread were of a partially finished basic gun that I threw together just to see how things would work. I hadn't intended that they be used for promotion at all:p. All I can say is wait till you see the finished product. I think you will all be very pleased. In designing this kit my goal has always been to "make it look real" or else whats the point.

So far we are still on schedule for mid summer release.

I see.... I may have just soiled myself, just a tad.

And you said this kit will cost less than a small car? What kind of car are we speaking here, and what is your definition of small??

Awesome, I thought that was already a wicked looking kit.

I am really looking to seeing the finished product.

Did you see my question regarding the magazines?

Sorry Kevin. Yes I did miss your question on the mags. The one in the picture of my Thompson prototype is in fact a real Thompson mag witht the feed lips removed. As much as I would love to use real Thompson magazines, they just cost too much. We will, however, be offering a similarily detailed magazine that will attach to the Ruger rotary magazine. For the most part the only way you will be able to tell which is the real Thompson mag is that ours will look new and the real mags... well they look like a bit used.;) As I had previously mentioned, our goal has always been to present a real looking Thompson and this includes magazines as well. You will be able to purchase as many of these faux magazines as you wish.

The drum magazine as offered by Promag does not fit on the kit. The real Thompson uses a dovetail system at the forward part of the trigger group to help support the long stick magazine for the M1 version . We are also using a similar system for the same reason, it would be too easy to break the mag right off. This prohibits the use of a drum mag at the moment. Later on we will be offering a 1927 veritical fore grip option and hopefully by then I may have found a way to incorporate the drum mag into the design.

My car is worth 500$ , lets hope it s not much more then that !!

I wouldn't worry.;)

I am very excited about the idea of continuing the war on gophers with one of these and my krinker plinker.

I really like the realism of your kit MR AR15, but I think that the ability to take the high cap mags is pretty important to me.

Both, yours, and Fungun's kits leave the mag well exposed. Why not extend the receiver cover a little ways so it lends some support to the mag?

It might be cheaper to do this and delete the T-Slot that was always the worst thing about the tommy gun IMHO.

This way, if Mystic Player ever gets them in, I will be able to deal in lead from my 50 round drum with ease and confidence.

I don't mind having to do mag changes if it looks right. Then again, I'm looking at it being a collection stand in first, and a regular capacity .22 second (to heck with these "high cap" mags, they're regular capacity gosh darnit!)

I'd be more inclined to buy with it as original looking as possible. If that can be done while making drum mags useable, I'd buy that too. if it'd be difficult to tell the difference, that'd also be an option.

You guys are doing good work! Can't wait to see these available.
