17 WSM Rimfire Rifles Manufactures, where are they?

$18 a box for ammo isn't outrageous.

For someone with an irrational fear of reloading, maybe.

I see the 17HMR as about as big a step up in rimfire performance as I would be willing to chance. Enough market penetration as to pretty much ensure ammo supply into the future, along with the availability of a lot of already existing hardware that will accept the round without any real modifications other than a barrel change.

For the money, reloading a hundred rounds is pretty easy to match, with the benefit that you can actually tune the ammo to the rifle, rather than just buying the stuff, crossing your fingers, and hoping it shoots well.

I'd be really happy to see the rifles that might handle the WSM, chambered instead in something like the 5.7 FN round, reload able, small, and not based on the old rimmed Hornet, with its thin case walls.

Really not feeling the love for spending that kind of coin on single use ammo, me.

Is there any info on this somewhere? I know a couple guys that would be interested to know if a decent rifle was going to be made in this caliber.

I wasnt clear in my post. I meant theyre marketing ammo. I havent heard anything of them making a rifle but the browning line of ammo will include the 17wsm

Sorry for any confusion

You do realize this is a rimfire forum?

Really? I'm paying about what 22 mag cost. Can't afford that? Sorry to hear about your luck.

Am well aware that this is a rimfire forum.

Strangely, we have been discussing the relative merits of why the manufacturers have been staying away from a particular rimfire caliber in droves, as well as some of the reasons that the consumers have been.

As to the ammo cost, you seem to be under some reading comprehension impediment. It's not that I cannot afford to pay, it's that I WON'T. Not when I can reload, get better ammo, and similar performance, or better, at less or even similar, costs to me.

The selling feature on this round, was and is, it's performance. That same performance can be got elsewhere. Without being saddled with a B-Mag (which I find less than an attractive looking firearm) or having to buy a Low Wall 1885 (which, as much as I like their looks, I can fully understand that many folks are just not looking for that, as well as they are not willing to lay down that money).

My personal opinion, is that the .17WSM owners are going to experience what the owners of the 5mm Remington Magnum have gone through, where they find that they have a rifle they either cannot get ammo for, or when they can, they flinch at the costs.

My personal fav is the 17mach2. Perfect for edible small game. While it lacks the visual misting of small varmints that the hmr and wsm have it does what i need. If i were to feel the need for a faster more violent 17 id move to a small cased centerfire. They offer the same or better performance for the same cost. Often much better performance and better rifle selection. Thats just my opinion however i do enjoy having many options

That kind of money, LOL....

Why the lols?

Early on in the release of the WSM, that was a pretty common complaint. The Savage got styled weird, and the Low Wall was too expensive for many.
Since another poster has noted that the Ruger is also priced pretty solidly in the thousand dollar range, the real question is, whether you want to spend that money on a rimfire or a centerfire rifle of similar performance, and with far more options to choose from.

Personally, I think the Winchester execs read their own sales brochure so many times they started to believe it. The buying public, not so much.

Im greatfull your in BC and Im in Ontario! Feeling a bit safer. The thread is about RIMFIRE NOT CENTERFIRE. I REPEAT. You reload and im happy for you. News flash its not a new thing been doin it for 45 plus years. While your reloading we will be shooting and all will be dead when you show up hahahah and with rimfire to boot. The 17 mach2 was supposedly dead also and lone behold now new offerings in ammo and custom gunmakers building rifles for them. Time will tell, get loading im too busy shooting!

Were you always a moron, or is it something you thought to try out?
Really dude, you dug out a months old post for THAT?

Trust me when I say this, I am glad to not be in Ontario too!

I would have liked to go with a 17 WSM for my gopher gun but as the OP stated, there are just not enough firearm options.

Instead I remained in the 17 HMR camp with my new Anschutz, the extra velocity would have been welcomed but have not been impressed with the B-Mag offerings.

A decent rimfire is what right now, if weather is good and I have a spare morning, I can grab it and go.

As much as I love it I just don't have the spare time for reloading and load development

Two rifles I want to buy when they are made ;
.17 WSM in CZ , Sako ,Cooper or Anschutz
and Anschutz 1761 Heavy Barrel in any caliber.

my next 2 fav's
