Anyone/own shoot one of these new copies with the tang safety? Does it shoot good, quality etc? I saw a pics of the carbine and like the looks but not sure about the rest. who makes it?

Are you talking about a Winchester? Or like a Chiapa copy?

If its the Winchester they are made in Japan and are top notch. I have 1892 trapper in 44 mag and love it. Second to none quality

The Miroku made winchester levers are very high quality. The 95 carbine replicas aren t seen as much as the sporting rifle version. They make a real handy woods rifle chambered for a really versitile cartridge the 30/06

I had one in 270 its a very well made rifle, they are heavy for all day carry and they have a long lever throw and cannot be scoped. Mine was extremely accurate.

I have always been interested in that very rifle. What was the recoil like? I seem to recall someone saying that it had a hard recoil because of the stock configuration.

I have an original '95 in .303 and I like them better then the new ones, I don't like the punkin on the end of the fore stock, the original ones had a smaller graceful snaubble. What I dislike even more is the dumb safety on the new ones, why would you want one if you have a hammer??

I hunt regularly with a Browning 1895 in 30/06(without tang safety). Recoil isn't't any worse than any other 30/06 I have shot. Mine has a receiver sight on it and shoots awesome. Longest shot was a whitetail doe at 165 yards. Probably my favorite gun.

I saw the SRC version and it sure looked good. I wonder how they shoot?

I have 3; a .270, .30-06 & a .405Win. They all have the tang safety.

They are superbly built reproductions of the original, and I'd wager better then the original (cnc machining, Japanese QC and attention to detail). In spite of naysayers, I believe the tang safety is actually an improvement.

They shoot great, handle great.

if they made it in 303 i'd buy one.

Ya I have a 1915 manufacture carbine in .303 brit. Rough shape due to a century of use and black powder but it still shoots 2" groups at 100m with a peep sight. There were a few made for the Canadian market in .303 if you look around. ;)

As for the new manufacture ones, I don't like them as much as the originals. It could just be because they haven't been broken in but I don't like the fact they added a hammer rebound and tang safety to these classic guns. Screwing with the design just bothers me for some reason. As it stands though for new lever guns the winchester 1895 is probably one of the best you can get.

get a browning and then you don't have to live with all the stupid dumbness

Got a new .405 Win (with tang safety) recently - it looks and feels great.

Several years ago I had a Browning (Miroku) 1895 in 30-06. It was very smooth and a well-built rifle.

Slick rifle perhaps, I ultimately sold it because it seemed odd having a highly accurate cartridge limited by iron sights.

Most '06 bolt action rifles wearing optics become a 200-300 yard hunting rifle.

AFAIK, the 1895 is a 200 yard (max) hunting rifle. So, might as well get it chambered in a "big" nostalgic cartridge (like the .405 Win) and use it within the limitations of iron sights.
