1911 in 9mm or just go to 45ACP?

I had a Ruger commander in .45 ACP, it was a great gun. I ended up selling it and buying the same pistol in 9mm. I was already reloading for 9mm and couldn't justify the cost of having a second caliber.

9 mm is much better to learn on. Much milder recoil then a 45 esp with factory 230 gr ball , if starting out.

Not saying cant learn with a 45 like me , but just in general
Its a duller recoil and less of a snap than 9mm. 45ACP 1911 was my first pistol. I was 16/17.

I remember going to Pops for Christmas. He got me to open packages on Xmas Eve. One was a 1911 and a jar full of cast bullets. We immediately went down stairs to load up rounds and Xmas Day went to shoot it.

It was only a little discouraging when we loaded near max, as it hit the hand hard. I ended up shooting IPSC with it fir a few years.

I remember one of my Gunnar single ported top end i had for it. I was at the range, i was shooting it and guy said it was too loud, and then moved over. I could see him struggling to shoot his Glock. Changing grips, hitting all over the place etc. I offered to help, he said no. Upset that apparently my single comp.45 was soo powerful and loud it made him not be able to shoot.

So i just kept on blowing out the center of my target. Then i saw him frustrated pack up and leave.

Unfortunately I lost alot of my photos.

Going with a 1911 in 9mm makes sense if especially if one doesn't reload & just wants the best bang for the buck using factory fodder.

The GSG1911 .22lr is good to go, too.

NAA.

Both, 😳 . Had a Beretta 9mm as my first then came the Kimber stainless in.45 and she is a beautiful gun. Was thinking of adding the Browning 1911 in.380 as the ones I handled were pretty slick but the ban crushed my dreams. Screw you Turdeau 💩. 😝

In addition to less recoil and cheaper ammo. A 1911 shooting 9mm will not be as stressed as one shooting a .45 ACP and will be very durable, especially if you change recoil springs frequently. You also have greater magazine capacity, Wilson Combat makes 10 round 9mm government magazines and officers mags that can hold 8 or 9 rounds in 9mm, and these are not extended mags per se. My favorite 1911 configuration is the CCO...officer's frame/commander slide and barrel. When I got mine back in 2005, no one made a stock one in 9mm and I had two built by Don Williams at The Action Works in Arizona. He was also able to build me a custom hi power recently and it was imported just before the Handgun Freeze.

A commander in 9mm is good too if you prefer a full grip.

If you want CCO, Gun Crafter Industries makes one in both calibers. Dan Wesson used to make them but discontinued them a few years back.

Commanders in 9mm are more common and many companies offer them. The Springfield Guardian 4.25" is in production.

I also have full size 1911 and a CCO in .45 ACP but like shooting the 9mm more.

I never heard a 45 1911 being stressed. Being its lower pressure than 9mm. But there has been factory 9mm 1911s with way too light springs, that caused the slide to slam back harder.

If I was to choose between the two calibers I’d take the 9mm, I enjoy 9mm more than .45 in a pistol. .45 is too slow, it’s not very snappy. I just find the .45 doesn’t wow me, I’d rather 9mm or 10mm in a 1911.

I’ve shot my buddy’s 9mm Kimber 1911 and then my .45 1911, and prefer the 9mm. Ammo cost is moot as I load for both, I’m hoping the .45 acp Enfield I’m going to put together changes my views on the cartridge. I want to like it lol.

Well, this has been great guys-thank you. My hands-on pistol experience is with a Glock 9mm, Ruger single action .357, a half dozen Ruger Mark .22 pistols, a CZ75 and a Beretta 92. (think it was a 92?)

Of those, it was really only the Glock I wasn't eager to keep using. I found that gun light and jumpy. Didn't thrill to the single action either, though I could sure see one of those down the road. I was surprised at how manageable .357 was.

I have recognized most of what's been mentioned here, but did run the Sig P210 through Google....wow. That's a beauty. There is a 210 "carry" that has a smoothed-out, 1911 look and is just beautiful overall.

Any 9mm FN models you guys would suggest? (no FN mention so far?)

Rugers are great .22s, but anyone here have an opinion of the Taurus TX22?

FN 509 are good. I wish they made a FNX 45 tactical in 9mm.

I was going to buy before the ban a Springfield XDM OSP.

Hey guys-I was musing about this recently. With PP likely taking government in the coming months I think we're all wondering about how soon handguns will be part of of the picture again, and I was looking at restricted courses this spring in anticipation of that. I'd been more focused on the "will they/won't they" and far less so on what pistol I'd consider if it all comes together.

Of course, I have a rimfire in mind (Taurus TX22 with optic mount or one of the Ruger 22/45s) and would probably settle-in to something in 9mm for cost reasons....but boy, it's always been the 1911 in 45 acp that got the juices flowing.

What are considered the best 9mm/1911s out there and failing that, best all-steel 9mm auto?
I think many folks are delusional and ignorant about what Pierre will do if elected. I'm sorry to break it to you, they aren't going to repeal gun laws.
I believe Canada is in serious trouble and anyone who thinks the CPC is coming to save Canada needs their head checked.

Guess I need to have my head checked.

After 9 years of tyranny and a constant barrage of political scandal and attacks on our beloved pastime, I don't have the energy to be negative Nancy anymore. I'm not naive either TriggerHappy-I'm not even sure I'm gonna gamble on the time/expense of the course! lol I think we'll both agree that if these "privileges" are to be restored, it's not bad timing to be consider a course ahead of the rush. My PAL has as many renewals on it as a PAL can have and I've been in Canada the whole time. I'm as skeptical as the next guy.

Choosing to be optimistic for a change. lol

In all seriousness, I just can't picture a PP majority government going back on that after years of PP's party pointing-out all the lies and dishonesty across the aisle... He'd have a pretty big sh*t sandwich to eat, and pretty early on. Guess we'll see!

Hey maybe when I upgrade my pistol, I'd sell you my SAM 9mm 1911 for a Norc price.

Peanut party of Canada entered the chat. Or are you a Maverick where it only benefits Alberta?

Then wanna say we're delusional and Arrogant? Hippy needs to stop smoking that reefer.

Ignorance is bliss
I can't believe how thoroughly brainwashed you are.
Go ahead. Call me names. I bet you you are boosted 2 to 3 times too.

Like I said. Ignorance is bliss.
Just like they would never coerce or force people into medical procedures right?
They would never destroy businesses and harm people locking them down right?
Because the CPC definitely stood tooth and nail opposing it all right?
Best of luck. Message me when these gun laws are repealed.

Hardly brain washed. Ill believe it when I see it. Funny how everything gets turned into politics. So you gotta piss in someone's cornflakes because they're unhappy. Your party ain't going to do ####. So cannot say we are delusional when you are equally or more.

Are you going to have another melt down and get triggered again? Because that was funny. Because multiple people messaged me and asked what is that guys deal. .

Meltdown? When did that happen.?
Lol. Triggered? Hardly.
I'm delusional? My party? 🤣
I don't have a party. All parties are corrupt.
Politicians are not beholden to their constituents. They answer to the party. And there are no parties working for you.
The CPC have long supported the UN and the UN small arms ban. This is bigger than Right vs Left.
Agenda 21 and 2030.
I'm going to go back to.my meltdown now. Enjoy your day 😉
