1911 Modifications Thread:

New guy who just bought new Norinco 1911 A1. Trigger pull is so heavy and uneven it makes accuracy difficult. There are no gunsmiths in my area. Any suggestions to smooth out the trigger?

Thanks.

take it apart and clean up the trigger bar / U-shaped thing and the guides in the frame. if you know how to wet sand and file, it should be easy. took me an afternoon to take it ALL apart, clean it all with kerosene, wet sand (400/800/1500 using kerosene instead of water), grease, oil, and reassemble.

my Norc 1911A1C (Commander) went from gritty-and-going-through-gravel to smooth-but-still-a-bit-firm, and the hammer drop is slightly nicer (but not much - good enough for IDPA but not a 'tune' by any stretch)

total cost? um... none. i had kerosene, wet sandpaper, oil, and grease on hand anyways. the http://www.m1911.org/full_striping.htm site has a good set of instructions for taking it apart and putting it back together.

Very nice, Wolf!!!

NAA.

thank you NAA !
I like it more in TwoTone hard chrome "facelift" and the final result get it over the long waiting period from Rodger to finalize this job.....LOL !

hammer and beaver grip safety are the original Norinco Commander!
grip safety "adjusted & fitted" by myself with Dremel tool and hard chromed, but the hammer is as factory made

I just bought a norinco commander and I am going to change a lot of parts. As far as a hammer sear combo I am not really sure what way to go. Does the sear make a big difference? Ia m also having trouble sourcing some novak wide notch night sites. If I can't find them I may go for straight 8 style sights.

I am in the process of making my own sights for my 1911A1. (norc)

I know I have posted it a billion times, but here is what I did to it so far (storm lake barrel, bushing and comp. Full length guide rod, trigger (polished both myself), made my own grips for it, and am making my own sights lol....Gunsmiths don't make a penny off me...I guess I should support them, but I am handy!)

I have my Nighthawk Custom flat, blued mainspring housing + magwell on the way from Brownells along with a pack of screw - on magazine bumpers. Tried to order a set of black Gunner Grips as well, but apparently i went over the limit for international orders and they had to withhold it. Maybe i'll check the E&E :p

I ordered a set of tritium novak style from fusion. Nice people there :). I am doing this project with casey at tac ord and cannot wait to get started! I wish I could do more of this myself. I think I am going to start watching some youtube vids.

I replaced mine. You just need a small hammer, a nylon punch, a vice (with some leather shims to protect the surface), and some lock-tite. There are videos on youtube that show you step by step. - Good luck!

watch out for the red loctited sights, they will make you go nutz.

can someone point me in the right direction here....

I tried for a long time to adjust the front sight on my armco norinco 1911A1 sport model but its not budging. found one video on youtube but it was not a norinco and that sight came out with a few taps with the punch.

so if someone has succeeded in adjusting, moving or removing one, please let me know, as its really driving me nutz

some slides have their sights dovetails peened so the sight won't move, it's usually easier to play with the rear sight.

In my case, both sights were held with loctite AND had the dovetail peened, the rear sight came off using hydraulic power and the front fight was just ground off.

Norc Commander Rear Sight

Hello,
I caught the 1911 bug and recently acquired a Norc Commander with the older style blade rear sights. I am looking to replace them with a Novak style two dot rear sight. However, there seems to be a variety by Novak with different heights. Anyone know the height that would line up with the factory front sight? I would prefer not to replace the front sight. I was looking at these ones from Brownells and was wondering if they would work:
http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=24417/pid=9677/sku/2_Dot_1911_Carry_Sight

Any help would be appreciated, as I am a noob when it comes to this platform.
Thanks!
