1911's Pics Thread

maybe some users add it, but some of the MEU i've seen have the low profile mag wells. however great job i do like. really can beat the norcy for a base build.

Thanks for the compliment, I really love this build, it was lots of fun and great to shoot.

The USMC built MEUSOC pistols were not built with mag wells, just the frame beveled as per the specs. There are a few builders who install them if requested, but original specs did not have them.

Here is my attempt at a MEUSOC. This gun started as a Norinco "Police" model 1911. First thing was to tear it down, clean and strip the finish, do a dehorn on all sharp edges. Due to the fact that this gun already had dovetail front sight, one was made to work with this dovetail. Next was to Mil-Spec parkerize all the parts. The rear sight is a Millett Mark 1 fixed. Trigger is a Wilson Combat, the full length guide rod was removed and a standard plug installed. The hammer is a Colt Commander hammer tuned to an STI sear with trigger set to 3.5lbs. Mainspring housing is an S&A flat checkered unit with lanyard loop and to finish it off, original style Pachmeyr grips installed.

This project came together quite well and although not 100%, I am really happy with it. I have a little over $600 Canadian into this gun not including the 15 Wilson magazines and so far I am able to shoot decent 1 hole groups with it @ 25yards. Already in the works is my next generation MEUSOC M1911, this one will sport Novak sights and Gunner grips, pictures will be posted when the project is done.

I would like to thank the following who helped this project come together, mlin and digdeep74 over on the 1911Forum who sold me the rear sights, grips, mainspring housing and trigger, Casey at Tactical Ordnance who did his normal outstanding work and my friend and mentor Ray Canning who helped me gain the outstanding accuracy this gun now shoots, unfortunately, Ray passed away before he could see the end results, but it shoots this way thanks to him, he would be very proud and happy, RIP buddy, this gun is dedicated to you.

Wow that looks nice, I just ordered a new police model with from ARMCO with his tuning. Where did you buy the spare mags?

Thanks, it is a great gun. I have always preferred the Wilson Combat 47D mags, I have used them with all of my 1911's. I buy them when ever I see them used, but new I get them from Brownells.

Real nice Steve! You have to help me out in the 25yard range with a pistol. I am still horrible!

Just got my Argentine Colt back, I wish I could say I did the work myself.

My pictures don't do it justice.

No they don't, but its the best we gonna get!:p I knew I shoulda bought that ugly duck, it has beauty under there. This was Nick at Vulcan eh Deadman? Let me be the first to say wowee, awesome job, you're a lucky (dead)man :D

Where did they put the serial number on those Argie Colts?

Yes, it was Nick. The guy is amazing! I never expected it to look as good as it does.

The serial number is on top of the slide, on the barrel, and behind the mainspring housing on the frame.

Before:

Nick almost did too good a job. I'm afraid to even touch it, let alone shoot it. Seriously, I've only handled it by the grips since it came back.

LOL, the pink monstrosity. Well he did wonderful, I know how you feel about touching it, but thats a better position to be in than it was before.

I have to say it as part of the custom.....if you ever decide to sell it, call me first. ;) Awe-some.

It'll probably be a while before they are done. Lots of parts to scrounge (and two of everything), and I want to do as much as I can myself. Also, there's a baby due at the end of Sept, so I need to divert precious funds toward finishing projects around the house.
