I ordered this Springfield 2 years ago and it finally arrived!

Very Nice!

A bit of nostalgia for the Colts Automatics lovers. I found these while doing some research on Colt 1911's.

Thanks for the nice comments on my Springfield guys. Appreciate it. Those old Colt advertisements are great! Makes me want to buy more Colts!

A few photos of Colt 1911's in Canadian military service:

Lieutenants, C Company, 31st Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, 1915. The one on the left is armed with a Colt pistol (note the spare magazine pouch attached to the face of his holster) but the one on the right has a revolver .... -

Sure looks like a Browning HP, as do the mags.

Not that I don't like and appreciate the photograph, but me thinks it might not be keeping with the 1911 theme.

Is that a Sten mk5?

Yes ..... Inglis-made High Power, actually.

When I tacked that image on at the end I intended to add (but plumb forgot to do so) that this John Browning design has actually been called - with ample justification - the "1911 Improved" ..... ;)

I get the connection.

Again, always thanks for the pics, keep em coming.

Great photo, Olof!

And it gives me an idea .... here are pictures of the 1911 shooters (or most of them) during the "Age of Expansion Match" at the Grand Army of the Frontier National Muster in Ord, Nebraska, in October 2009. (GAF is a Victorian-Era Military Action Shooting organization - its equivalent to the Wild Bunch Match is the Age of Expansion Match, in which suitable firearms of the 1900-1914 period are used ..... including appropriate battle rifles of the same era. Any suitable handgun can be used - i.e. other semi-autos of the period, as well as both single-and double-action revolvers.)

I can't claim personal credit for the photos .... the brother of one of the competitors was there with a very nice digital SLR camera and veritable battery of lenses, and was taking photos throughout the three days of the shoot .....

But to get this back on topic .....

"Rattlesnake Jack Robson, Scout, Rocky Mountain Rangers, North West Canada, 1885
Major John M. Robson, Royal Scots of Canada, 1883-1901
Sgt. John Robson, Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, 1885
Bvt. Col, Commanding International Dept. and Div. of Canada, Grand Army of the Frontier"

Nice to see some leftys shooting 1911's..... :cool

Actually, one particular stage required each shooter to engage the targets with the "weak hand" (after supposedly being "wounded" in the strong-hand arm ..... firing a magazine full with each hand.) The many pictures on the CD I got do show several of the shooters firing both left-handed and right-handed.

For example, the close-up I just posted is the arm of the chap in the seventh photo down in the first string of pics .... in which he is shooting right-handed. And this is the same shooter as seen in the first photo in the string -
