The (second annual) 2006 Canadian .50 Calibre Fun Shoot will be held on Saturday August 12th, at the Genesee range, West of Edmonton, Alberta.

Our format will be similar to last year, with competition in the morning, and a chance for the public to shoot a .50 cal in the afternoon.

Lots more info at http://www.50calshooters.ca

Ben

We had 700 Mtrs last year, the club has had some rumor that 800 may be in the works.
We had 10 guys bring guns and about 150 people come to shoot and watch, so there definiately is an interest. If something truly long was offered I think with some promotion it would be successful.
Keep me in the loop, I am interested and certainly would be willing to help out where ever possible.
The more shooting real long range the better.

Long range shooting

At last years shoot what did you use for targets? The club here was thinking if we are going to place targets out to 1000m or beyond. Then we should try and use some sort of reactive style of target to show the hit rather than standard paper. Any thoughts......

Extremely hard steel plates, hung on chains. Even though it was the alloy used to patch armoured fighting vehicles, the .50 still kicked the heck out of them! .388, .308, .300 win mag, etc all barely pocked marked this steel at similar ranges.

I am going to try something else this year, I own the plates, and could not afford to replace them every other year.:(

I am going to try "disposable" plates made of metal roofing, some sheet metal and a couple of types of plastic targets, to see which will dance best when hit. A good, visible reaction is key when shooting at these ranges.

What type of target material can anyone else suggest?

Hmmm. This thread makes me want to go and fondle my .50, maybe tuck her in for the night....

Gotta go now...

Cheers,

Ben

Long Range Shoot

If our club here was to host a shoot, we would probably try for target distances from 900m to 1200m. We would try and utilize reactive targetry and possibly a mover or two. What types of courses of fire and round counts for a match would interest you shooters?

Hey all;

How far out can you shoot at Genesee range?? If there was enough interest and you guys don't mind the trip...I could try and book a range out here in Wainwright and run a long range competition later in the summer??

I am all over that!! Maybe we could add in a "really big friggin bore" category to our tentative 24 Sept 06 Long Range Match?
