What is WestJet's firearms acceptance?
Answer:
WestJet will accept unloaded assembled or disassembled firearms and ammunition for transportation in checked luggage only.
- Firearms must be unloaded.
- A FIREARM(S) DECLARATION form must be signed by the guest, stating
the firearm is UNLOADED.
- Firearms MUST BE LOCKED in a heavy duty container or hard sided
gun case that can not be seen through and cannot easily break open
during transport.
- A trigger lock must be in place on the firearm.
- A Firearms License (FAL) is not required at this time for any
firearm.
- WestJet personnel will NOT conduct an inspection to confirm the
firearm is unloaded, however, the guest will be required to give
verbal confirmation the firearm is unloaded.
FIREARMS ACCEPTANCE AND ALLOWANCES:
- NON-LETHAL FIREARMS (air pistols, paintball guns, bb guns, starter
pistols). Will count as one item of checked luggage. Paintball guns
can travel either with no CO2 (carbon dioxide) cartridge or if the
CO2 cartridges or tanks can be emptied, and the valve secured in the
open position (see the Dangerous Goods Master list for more details on
paintball guns).
- NON-RESTRICTED FIREARMS (e.g. hunting rifles or shotguns).
Limited Liability Release form must also be completed.
RIFLE. Will count as one item of checked luggage. “One item” is
defined as up to two (2) rifle cases containing not more than
four (4) rifles (with or without scopes), two (2) shooting nets,
two (2) noise suppressers and small rifle tools. Must be
equipped with a trigger lock.
SHOTGUN. Will count as one item of checked luggage. “One item” is
defined as up to four (4) shotguns and four (4) shotgun cases.
Must be equipped with a trigger lock.
- RESTRICTED OR PROHIBITED FIREARMS: Only handguns or pistols will
be allowed for transport. Limited Liability Release form must be
also completed. Tazers and stun guns are prohibited from transport
on WestJet.
HANDGUNS: Will count as one item of checked luggage. “One item”
is defined is defined as UP TO FOUR (4) transported in ONE locked
opaque hard sided gun case or heavy duty container, with trigger
locks in place.
PACKAGING GUIDELINES: AMMUNITION:
- Ammunition must be packed separately from the firearm.
- Ammunition intended for sport or hunting must be carried in sturdy
luggage, and no more than 5kg (11 lb) will be permitted per guest.
- Ammunition must be packaged in the manufacturer's original
container, or an equivalent sturdy, durable container that
provides sufficient cartridge separation.
- Self loaded, home-made or hand loaded ammunition is NOT acceptable
for transport as the gunpowder contents have been altered or
changed.
- Primers or gunpowder alone cannot be accepted for transport on
WestJet.
*PLEASE NOTE: WestJet will accept firearms for transport on scheduled transborder and charter flights,
but they must be packaged and transported in accordance with our firearms acceptance guidelines. In addition, guests should be aware that the restrictions surrounding the importation of firearms vary greatly from country to country, and it is the guest's responsibility to ensure that all necessary permissions, documentation and other requirements have been obtained or satisfied, prior to travelling. WestJet can offer no guidance on the rules around a particular country's acceptance policy, and accepts no liability in the event a guests' weapon is
not allowed entry, or is confiscated upon entry.
