2010 Bull - My record Distance

Well this is the way I was taught..

It is hunting there are NO guarantees in hunting..even at 100 yards and animal can be wounded and not found..distance is no different.
To me I am glad that an outdoorsmen got out and took advantage of our great hunting heritage in the greatest country in the world Canada.
There was way more moose shot with lesser calibers and none of the fancy tools we have now..we all need to take some lessons from the old timers and give guys credit when it's due..Bickering and whining about how far a guy shoots, or where he hits animal does nobody any good.
This gentleman was kind enough to share his story, with-out camera editing, no B.S and I give him credit, and proud of him.
There will be a time when no one will want to share their stories..I often wonder sometime who some of these members are who belittle and begrudge people for sharing their stories that they are proud of.
Like your mother told you..if you have nothing nice to say..don't say anything at all.

word of wisdom:

1. Don't buy Reminton

2. Don't tell your hunting story

Post a pic of your moose taken this year with your non Remington.;)

You have any hunting stories to tell? Maybe you just like to criticize people who actually hunt.

Just because you ask for it.

308 works if you know your rifle and the load.

Cheers!

That smile looks good on you. Fun watching the mules go down isnt it. congrats:)

PS. I dont like it though. Your hauling out of an area that looks no where near as dirty as ours:p

sorry for the misunderstooding. I was feeling that Danny Boy got too harsh treated by a few "higher moral stand bearers". Why would one share a story knowing that a group of ethic professors would swarm in toward you?

Holy f*ck Batman!

Just can't make some people happy on this board eh? For a bunch of folks that are big on personal freedom some of you sure have a lot of criticism on the way he shot the moose.

The end result is that the moose is dead and from the story did not suffer in anyway. Just because the way you hunt may be different doesn't give you the right to sh!t on the OP for doing it his way.

This thread is just further proof that our hunting and shooting sports are doomed. We can't get along amongst ourselves, how do we expect to have a united front against the antis?

Danny Boy - I'd be happy to hunt with you any day of the week. Congrats again on the moose.

Whats that rifle you used on him Dan? Looks like a Model 700 BDL SS?

Archie:

That was my Tikka T3 with a VX-3 2.5-8x scope with B&C reticle.

I am looking forward to the meat which I have to share with 10-12 hunters at the camp.

That was the third moose I harvested from that same marsh within the last four years. The previous ones were young bulls shot at 75-150 yards range. We didn’t have any problem pulling them out. This one was too heavy for six men and our ATV that we had to quarter it.

I just loaded 10 more rounds of the TSX for the upcoming deer hunt.

:)

Thank you!

This section of the board has been flooded lately with trolls and self proclaimed hunting experts. It is a shame really :(

So far this fall I have been sent around ten successful hunting stories and pics by PM from people I know or chat with on the board, not one of them was posted in here and I don't blame them one bit. Who wants to get sh1t on by fellow hunters after just having a successful hunt? I know I don't...

We went to the marsh by boats through two lakes and hiked 2 km up the hill. Travel time is 2+ hours. Not as lucky as some of you that can hunt out of a truck.

I was hunting in WMU #54. I have a range finder but didn’t have it with me, neither was I expecting to shoot that distance (the long point in the marsh). It is obvious that I misjudge the distance as I noted with my first shoot. That was corrected with my subsequent shots. That was my decision to shoot and I made.

I practice 200-500 rounds at the 300 yard range yearly. Not as much last year but I am very comfortable shoot that distance.

Were you in the Haliburton Forest? I was there last week, in the south east corner, we didn't get a moose.

No, I wasn't hunting in Haliburton Forest. For all these years I hunted in WMU 54 I find that our success rate in the group hunt must be >90%.

There were times I didn't see one single moose for the 2-3 days. This year, for the first two days out there we had over 10 sightings incuding the four (2 cows and 2 bulls) I spotted when I arrived at the stand. Too bad we only had one bull tag.

:p:p:p

Congrats on the moose and don't listen to the trolls Danny Boy!

I was out for 4 days hunting and we seen 13 does, 1 small two point buck, 1 huge buck (too dark to shoot it), and only a cow and calf moose.

No moose for me this year :(

That is a very true statement.

Close range is no guarantee of success, he made the judgment call and a dead moose trumps internet experts every time.

You can't argue with results and this experience has taught him some lessons. That is the foundation of learning.

Nice moose Danny, but you got to admit there was a bit of luck in that shot. That's fine with me, luck that is consistent is usually skill and preparation in disguise.
