2011 CGN Saskatchewan gopher shoot. Thanks to everyone for coming!

Hey all, as a newcomer to the CGN community I don't really know how the previous years turned out with the annual hunt. I was just kinda curious how many spots you anticipate will be available for this years hunt. Also, you all kinda seem to know each other fairly well... are there any younger, less experienced shooters that go to this? I'm 23 and just caught the gun bug, and this sounds like a heck of a lot of fun, but I'm not sure if I wanna go if everyone is 20 years older than me and pro marksmen with sweet gear. No offense, you all seem like a fun and friendly group, but I don't want to show up looking like a total noob, you know?
f:P:

Also, I live in Swift Current, about 35 or 40 mins away from Tomkins, so it's kinda convenient for me. I was wondering if this affair is for CGNer's only or if there happen to be a bunch of open spots, should I invite a friend of mine who is from just north of there?

Thanks guys.

People of all ages, Not including the families that tag along, I'd estimate attendance ages are;

19-mid 40's :)

So lets get this started.....what is needed for the shelter at the campsite and who can bring what?

I have no idea what we're doing for shelter this year but I expect we'll end up with something like last year.

I can bring a couple medium-sized tarps, some 3" screws, and maybe some shorter pieces of lumber. Hey, I wonder if we could use some pieces from that granary that blew down last year?

need 2x4's, 2x6's preferably 12' long to work best. Tarps, rope, nails & or screws.

Not sure what I am even bringing for lodging this year.. I hope to have the trailer again, makes the wife happy.

Now for some reason I thought this thread had been quiet, but it seems I wasn't getting my notifications... wierd..

I realized this weeknd how little time is left before this shoot. Between the late spring, bear hunting (which goes right to the July long) I haven't even though much about this shoot.. I still have to load up for the .223 & get everything else ready.. I do have some ammo to try out a gun I haven't had a chance to try yet, a .22 win auto.. I think I have 5 or 10 shots to try out there with it.. lol

Anyway I am looking forward to it... and based on those there last year, I am pretty sure I am at the older side of everyone...

If there is an open slot, I would like to come.

What range are most of these gophers being shot at? Sounds like a lot of you repeat customers are bringing out 204's, 223's, 22-250's, etc. I have a bone stock savage 17HMR, but I could probably borrow a 22-250 if that would be more appropriate. As for supplies, lumber is hard for me to transport, can't fit much in my little dodge neon. Let me know what else you need though and I will see what I can do. As it would be my first time out there, I don't want to become too invested before I know what to expect. If it turns out though that I can attend (pending official invitation, I know I have the time off and I only live 45 mins away) I can commit $50-$100 worth of building materials. And a hammer...

Well, if the invitation is open I am working in Regina on the 11th so this could be very doable....

To be honest I didn't read through all 14 pages of the thread, but are generators allowed?

I can commit $100 bucks for building material and a hammer as well.

Let me know...
