2015 - My Black Rifle shoots sub-MOA groups all day long challenge! Revised Rules!

Hi guys,

Went to Ruisseau Noir (near Montreal) shooting range today with my ACR. So, here it is....

Rifle: Bushmaster ACR (non-restricted)
Barrel: 18.5" Bartlein stainless 1:8" twist
Munitions: Sierra 55 grn Blitzking loaded with 25.8 grn of Varget, OAL 2.250", brass is a variation of headstamps (nothing fancy)
Bipod: BT10-LW17 V8 Atlas Bipod, sandbag in the back (on pistol grip actually)
Scope: VIPER PST 6-24X50 FFP riflescope
Distance from target: 100 yards
Results: 4/5 are under MOA

Comments: Finally started shooting MOA when I fixed my ergomic issues (the way I was supporting my rifle) and improved my trigger management (just being more stable). I will try for 5/5 as soon as I can. Great contest by the way. A lot of fun!!!!

Very nice shooting! Congrats, I've add your name to the Honourable List.

LOL, time to start hitting the range at the crack of dawn when there's no wind and no distractions. Like you say, your rifle has the potential if the operator does his/her part. Worst case, mount it on a sled. :)

I dont think, the sled should be use for the challenge, bags, bipods rests, leave all the burden to the operator, the sled take away a lot of the operator participation...
I could be wrong on this but that the way i feel... JP.

Getting ready to trow in the challenge the FNAR, S&B PMll and Hornady 155 gr Match setup... This should be real good... JP.

Okay--Here's my first attempt at Black Rifle glory. I'm not sure if all groups have to be moa or better, or if the average of all is okay. If this is the case, I may have barely made it.

The rifle--An adcor 16" piston bbl upper with an Aero lower--4.5 ib single stage trigger.
Scope--A Weaver Varmint fine reticule scope cranked to 16X
Sandbag front and rear
Ammo: 77gr Black Hills Match-Except for group 5 (I ran out of the 77 gr and used a 55 gr SP hoping that my luck will continue).
Plenty of time between groups for cooling (but maybe not enough)
Distance 100M

Group sizes are as follows: 1. .575" 2. .47" 3. 1.05" 4. 1.22" 5. 1.7" (all center to center)

Average of all 5 groups is 1.003" at 100M Best 4/5 group average (without the lousy 1.7") would be .834"

Good attempt Zuperman. Only two of your groups qualify. You need at least 4 groups MOA or better. You know your rifle has the potential!

I attempted the challenge with my rifle which I thought it would be a cakewalk since my last load testing netted be 3 sub-MOA groups. Not so much! Utter failure. I think it was shooter error and not so much the hardware. I found out my bipod had worked itself loose and my new ADM scope mount might not have been tighten down enough. Not sure those two thing would have added to the bad shooting but I'm pretty confident it was the crappy shooter. :p

Thank you.
I will get more of that fantastic (for this rifle) 77 gr stuff and try one more time....
I also have a Sig 516 that shows some promise. Even the chrome lined barrels (above) can do it (although perhaps less likely). I really think bbl heat needs to be somehow kept under control (?ice packs) with these relatively light carbine bbls.

Okay--Here is attempt #2 With my Adcor 16" chrome lined piston upper.
4.5 ib Single stage trigger
77 gr Black Hills match
Sandbag front and rear
minimal wind (if any) right to left

Group sizes are: .855 , .61" , .475" , 1.18" , and .88"

Four of five groups are sub moa, so it looks like I get an "honorable mention" My heart sank with that 1.18 group :( I knew any hope of really doing well was lost when the second shot was so far from the first (or so it seemed).

Just for everyone's info, average of all 5 groups is a remarkable (I thought) .8"

And I forgot--distance 100M 16X fine reticle varmint scope

Post 201 from the link I provided.

Ahh, gotcha. There's no rule that says it has to be shot after the challenge was posted. The only downside is that it's not shot on a 1" grid target where one can verify the groups but you do have a caliper out. Post the results here and if nobody complains, I'll add you to the Gold Star list. :)
