Sorry bud, I only measure success when having a safe and enjoyable day in the field. I prefer to conduct all my hunting prior to pulling the trigger, which of course only takes a micro-second.

I shot this beauty 10 point at 705am opening morning. I was grunting at a spike about 100 yards away then I heard a grunt behind me and seen this guy working over a scrap.
He walked out of the trees and I shot him at 50 yards with my 20 gauge. He ran 50 yards and piled up.

Just got settled down and my phone rings and i thought it was my buddy calling to see what I got. He can barely talk he's so excited and said he shot a massive buck.

Turns out walking to his stand in the dark he could hear two bucks fighting. Climbed his tree stand and right at daylight this monster walked into view and he plugged him with his 12 gauge at 40 yards.

He has so many fresh cuts on his neck from fighting, he was grunting the entire time. I bet that back scratcher on his rack was cutting his neck. He didn't see the other buck.

We got a spike and small 8 as well. Bucks are rutting hard!

I am thinking I have a rough idea of where you hunt as I saw your porcupine buck at the butcher's today. Zoomed in on your pics and compared to the one at the shop it is definitely the same buck. Nice bucks by the way.
 
Took him in to get caped out for shoulder mount. We got another smasher 10 point this morning as well. One tag to go

Edit :another guy missed a huge buck at first light, Buck was trailing a doe and didn't stop long and clean miss, watched him for 20 minutes chase her around a cut corn field

It was a good year for me... filled my spring turkey and fall bear tag. To end my 2017 hunting season I tagged a buck earlier this week.

I'm very thankful my freezer is full.

Good luck to you all and just a friendly reminder be sure the picture(s) you post online or send to a friend with your deer in the vehicle or hanging in your garage or tree has been properly tagged.

I remember hunting those Van Isle Blacktails with my grandfather in my teens. One afternoon a doe with twin fawns stepped out in front of us and gramp says “look lad, there’s dinner and two pots of soup!” Laugh2
 
Ha ha ha - too true. They are pretty miserable size when you have a chance on mainland bucks. Yield was a whopping 26 lbs of ground and stew from the neck / ribs etc. However, all I have to do is set up at the back of the property and wait so the cost per pound is pretty good.

Sounds like you live around Nanoose Bay? No shortage in peoples yards there!

True, in this neck of the woods the nicest ones due hang out in people's yards. We have a little over 8 acres which is a bit more than standard so no need to be shooting over buddies fence!

Don't tell anyone but that's the trick to shooting big bucks!

But really, I normally hunt with well tied Lowa's, those are my ####ty army issued boots, they're only good enough to take the deer out in my backyard for my wife to take pictures. Haha
 
Looks like some fun and successful hunting going on, congrats everyone, some real nice eating fur us all this winter ;)
We took 4 blacktails in early october and also filled 2 of my wifes deer tags in region 5 and region 3 so far. I have some real nice pics from one hunt but not sure how to post em anymore now that i don't have a photobucket.
anyhow, congrats all, season's not over just yet either

I was successful yesterday. Not the 12 point I was after but I left work on the midnight shift at 7am after no sleep in about 50 hours. Got to my spot and changed into my hunting cloths. It was a complete blizzard. White out and 40 kmh wind gusts but I decided to continue anyway. I walked across the 400 yards to the bush and down the logged trail when all of a sudden the wind died down and the snow flakes got big I saw brown coming thru the trees about 80 yards away. I raised my 50 Cal front stuffer after clearing the snow from the scope lens and saw it was a decent bodied small buck. The wind picked up and I lost sight of everything past 25 yards. Trees became mere Grey streaks in the blowing snow then out walked this buck from the haze. He held his head straight out and walked almost at me. It was picture perfect setting and as he continued toward me I decided even though he was only a 4 point I'd take him. When his head was behind a tree blocking my movement I raised my rifle and as he came passed the tree I put a 270 gr platinum power belt thru his shoulder at about 5 yards. The wind swept the smoke away so I witnessed his last 5 jumps. I didn't weigh him but I got 67lbs of meat. I give my bones and scraps to a friend who has a dog on a raw diet so I'm not overly anxious to take every last oz of meat. I didn't even take between the ribs
He's one of the smallest bucks I've shot but the only deer I've shoot in snow something I've wanted to do. I hope to remember this one and I'm sure I will as the storm cleared the sun came out and brought back memories of bunny hunting days drinking a ice cold coke overlooking sun bright snow. Just the way the deer came thru the snow was a sight to remember
Also my wheel barrel worked great getting him out. I have a messed up shoulder and I'm still not over a torn Achilles tendon so solo hunting has its challenges but the wheel barrel is so much easier than my dad's deer cart and it provides the extra height to drag the deer from it into the box of my truck. 2 ratchets keep the deer secure for transport then they attach to the tie down loops in the bed to secure the wheel barrel while I drag him into the box. Got some strange looks from passing motorists but it's easier than fighting dead weight
All in all I saw 17 deer in 4 outings. All but 1(12 point. No shot) were less than 15 yards. Others were bigger with nice wide heavy 6 points but they wouldn't have been as memorable to me. Maybe I'm getting old but that's starting to mean a lot more to me now
 
Yesterday just before last light, a 145 inch, 5X5 white tail at roughly 200 yards. I thought he might have been bigger, however he was in front of
willows and hard to judge. No photo's, my i-phone froze up and I can't seem to upload photo's anyway. One of 36 we saw on our property yesterday,
mostly does and fawns and probably some of the same deer over and over. Also had 2 bull moose and a cow and calf, however no tags. A great
day out with my youngest son.
