Well the rifle season begins in Ontario in 60 minutes, so we may as well start a thread now. I only hope I'm able to use this thread later on! Show us this year's harvest of deer lady's and gents!

Didn't take the shot but had a small 6 point 15 yds away for about 5 minutes this morning after sneaking up on him through some standing corn....Now if it was the weekend, he would have been down....
best of luck to everyone

Two mulies antlerless ,[youngest son]one 1st 30 seconds of opening day with my .250 Savage at 125 yards.Oldest son wanted to shotgun his , so Savage 212 with a 3" Rem Accu Tip 385gr through the shoulders at 75 yards.been looking at lots of deer daily and will eventually shoot a couple WT's.Was -28 with the wind chill today.I may murder a smaller one to get back to the fireplace.Harold

Just got a doe. No pics sorry.. Ill edit them in later. Just wanted to mention that at about 30y my .270w was an absolute laser (to be expected) and boy do 140gr sierra sp bullets do their job. Perfect shot placement absolutely destroyed the heart. Im amazed the deer got 10ft before dropping cold. When gutting I looked at the heart and wow. The top 2 thirds of it looked like they had been cut off. No sign of the rest of it.
Remember shot placement is key when hunting!

My wife got her first buck in during archery season. A big 4 1/2 year old ten pointer. He scored 143 inches net (141 after B&C Deductions). Ontario WMU58.

Had a good hunt last weekend, an antlerless and a smallish buck 2 hours apart.
We were in the bush, but the first one walked out on a trail in the woods, while
the buck got caught looking when he should have been running, lol.
That smaller deer was shot in the back of the neck as he was facing straight away,
thus the ragged exit. Severed the Jugular on exit....325 WSM. D.

Been an awesome controlled hunt so far

I shot this beauty 10 point at 705am opening morning. I was grunting at a spike about 100 yards away then I heard a grunt behind me and seen this guy working over a scrap.
He walked out of the trees and I shot him at 50 yards with my 20 gauge. He ran 50 yards and piled up.

Just got settled down and my phone rings and i thought it was my buddy calling to see what I got. He can barely talk he's so excited and said he shot a massive buck.

Turns out walking to his stand in the dark he could hear two bucks fighting. Climbed his tree stand and right at daylight this monster walked into view and he plugged him with his 12 gauge at 40 yards.

He has so many fresh cuts on his neck from fighting, he was grunting the entire time. I bet that back scratcher on his rack was cutting his neck. He didn't see the other buck.

We got a spike and small 8 as well. Bucks are rutting hard!
