Pros cons? Obsolete? Couple of rifles I'm thinking of. The 22-250 is a savage axis and the 222 I'm waiting to hear more about. Reloading is probably the only real option for either.

The 22-250 has the performance advantage and far more availability of factory ammo and cases if you’re reloading. 222 is plenty effective at reasonable ranges and is slightly more efficient to load for in terms of powder. To me that choice might come down to the rifle you are considering. I would pick the 222 in something like a Bruno every time over an axis in any chambering.

Curious to hear what rifle the 222 is. All I know is it has a wood stock. 22-250 ammo is easier for me to pick up. And I have a little surplus of lg rifle primers. Both are the same price both have scopes. Don't know what scopes yet but that's another thing.

For coyote oportunities
So then it depends how far you want to shoot them.

.222 is really a 300 yard gun on coyotes, and at 300 you need to hit 'em where it counts, the margin for error is small at that distance compared to a caliber with more oomph, say .243 for example.

If you're looking to go much past that .22-250 would be the better option. That said, like 257hunter, between an axis in .22-250 or a Brno, krico or anschutz in .222 I'd go with the .222 regardless. I'd try to find something better than an axis if I wanted to reach out further.

There is a member that has/had a Brno Fox II in .222 for sale back in February.
It sure looked pretty and was itchin to shoot something.

Any used varmint rifle should be checked for wear at the throat and last couple inches of bore at the muzzle.
22-250 is flatter longer, louder, and ammo will be easier for you to source, but 222 is not hard to find. I personally would go for whichever rifle is nicer, both will take a coyote and both calibers are interesting.

i have hunted all kinds of vermin out to 400 yds with the 222 hand loading of coarse i bought my first 222 in 1974 and having been using one to this day probably 200 yotes plus in fact a week ago 357 yard 55 gr hornday sx h322 powder
in your case factory ammo and a axis i would not worry about how far your gun will shoot
