.22 Ammo Stash

And I shoot rimfire target ammo quite a bit in my pistols. Quite often I burn off about 2,200-3000 of SK Rifle Match and/or Special Pistol Match a year on average. These are not hoarded piles. They get totally consumed at the range in bullseye style shooting.
Also there is always a brick of Super X HPs around for the odd gopher expedition.

But the amounts posted here make me wonder if there are gopher trips going on in downtown GTA, or otherwise?

Geepers, I think you got me beat!

I think I may have a few more ammo cans at my Dad's though, so it'd be close.

So I thought I would put my $.02 in here. My son and I just completed a 9 day camping trip through southeast BC and lower part of Alberta, hitting each CT on the way. It's interesting to note how different regions have different stock on many different items, not just ammo. The most interesting find was in Fernie BC, where they actually have center fire rifles for sale, and not only that, they had 3 or 4 SKSs for $200!! and 1000 round cases of ammo... Wow! Cool SKS at CT?? They also had a ton of reloading equipment, brass, bullets etc. Too cool! We stopped at about 8 CTs and only found .22 ammo at one store in Calgary and in Cranbrook BC. I passed on the bricks there as we already had that brand, but bought one brick of each Remington Golden Bullets and Winchester GT Target at a Calgary store. They had 3 or 4 boxes of each, but that's it. We each have Browning T-bolts and are just testing to see what ammo they prefer, then once we find that, will buy a few more boxes. I had a few misfires with the Winchester 555 but otherwise we had a great trip and put away around 30-40 gophers in the week. So far we have a brick of each of Winchester 555, Remington Golden Bullet, Winchester GT Target, American Eagle (old maybe 15 years now) Federal Champion 525, Winchester Expert HV and about a dozen boxes of 50 of various mfrs that we have been collecting over the years. This should keep us going for quite a while. Once the shortage is over, or I find a sale on ones that our guns like, we will buy a bit more.

cheers

Yeah, the variety of stuff that CTC's carry blows me away.
All of our local ones here (Belleville, Ontario area) seem to carry at least a small selection of firearms and ammo but the store in Belleville itself is insane!
I would say almost a 1/4 of the store is dedicated to outdoors/fishing/hunting and the entire one wall of the store is a gun display case. They have the 1882 T2 shotguns, they have SVT's sometimes, SKS's surplus ammo, you name it!
The only downside is they insist on recording PAL info, regardless of who I talk too there.

On the .22 front:
I can't seem to walk out of a store that sells ammo without purchasing a brick of .22
It doesn't go bad and never gets cheaper
I'm at roughly 7500-8000rnds.

"Winchester Expert HV"

Picked up a couple of bricks of this on my way past Epps yesterday, anyone have any input on how it fires in a 10-22?
Or better yet, what 10-22's really shoot well?

So after visiting the local gun shop, and getting their story about the US shortage, and now ours (I thought they of all people would know) I was told that they will only sell one brick per customer per week. Don't know what they had in the back but only had about 20-25 bricks in the display case. Stopped in CT and found they just received some Federal so I bought another brick. That puts us at about 5K. That should do us for a few years. I found some old stuff in my farm truck and a few other places. Have a look.

Ahhhh...the good 'ol days... $.77 for 50 from Army&Navy, and CT $1.39.

Now I just need to find a 10/22. Our Browning T-bolts seem pretty happy with most of these.

And look at this stuff. The brass is very tarnished...dark brown, this will just be for display.

My 10/22 hates the winchester expert hv's. Seems to jam up alot.

I've never had any luck with those either. Stick with minimags. That winchester red box is somehow worse than winchester white trash.

.
The Home Hardware store in Brandon had a lot of Federal Bulk 525 on sale about a week ago.

I shoot about 3-4000 rounds of .22 rimfire each year, mostly on Gophers. I have about a three year supply at that rate.

It is interesting to see that the people who have had the intelligence and foresight to stock up on ammunition so that they can continue to shoot in lean times are now called "Hoarders" by those people who did not.

Maybe because if they weren't buying by the ton and stashing it there wouldn't be a shortage in the first place...

1050 rds. - Remington Golden Bullets
1000 rds. - Remington Yellow Jacket

200 rds. - Remington CBee
1700 rds. - CCI Stinger
1000 rds. - CCI Velocitor
2000 rds. - CCI Minimag 40gr RN
1800 rds. - CCI Minimag 36gr HP
