I have had quite a few 22mags over the years ........1 marlin ,2 10/22 magnums, 2savages (pre-accutriger) and I have settled on the 597 Laminate heavey Barrel.
The marlin shot well with almost anything but the savages were just looking to good and cheeper than the marlin, so I sold the marlin and bought an new savage 93 . It shot well but I saw SIR had a stainless HB model with the synthetic stock and WSS had a blued HB 17hmr with a wood stock ,So I bought them both and switched stocks and sold the HMR.
The savages Shot great but the bolt-action just dident do it for me with it being a rimfire and I had been eyeing up the ruger for a while since I had built 19 regular 10/22s. , I loved building them ,build it up ,shoot it ,sell it and start all over again .....spent alot of coin on them .
The first 10/22 mag only saw 50rnds with the factory barrel and then the gun was overhalled

I found that the VQ extractor made the gun fuction flawlesly , I shot it a fair bit was offered a good price and it was gone

I then bought anouther one and did it all over again , once I really looked into how much $$ I had tyed up in the 10/22 mag and my other 10/22 lr I sold them both. Both mags would do an inch at 100y if I did my part
When they sold $950 for the mag and $400+ a ruger 9mm for the 10/22lr
I placed an order for a new 10/22LR (witch remains stock except for trigger ) and a 597HB with laminate stock and I think I bought a new AR with the leftover and some $$ from the gunfund
Have been happy with the 597 mag and havent looked back, even bought one in 22lr
the 597 is consistant ,no problems and will group an inch with win supreme , remington V-max, super-x JHP, CCI maxis @100y dynapoints shoot a bit bigger as well as CCi TNT's Either way its a good rifle for being stock , trigger has not even been replaced with a VQ
