234 Wildcat Family....ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Yes indeed groups are looking promising, nice to see some shooting after 129 pages of mostly :jerkit:.

I suppose if it were your thread you would have been able to run a business, go through a big move, source parts and do research, get a rifle built, develop a load and get her shooting in less than the 8 months it took Douglas?....

P.S., if you change your settings you would be on page 13....

Ah SB, dead meat is right, it's been much longer than it would have been 20 years ago, especially with the huge jump forward on the bullet dies. 20 years ago I'd had 3 rifles built and waiting when the bullets were ready however I ain't in my 30s anymore !!!! But we gott'er done, at least the first one..........

No chronoing today as I was awakened by the rain pouring down so hard I thought a freight train was coming through the house, that was at 5:45 and it hasn't let up yet...........

I made a new expander ball for my die last night as I thought the previous one was a little tight at .230" and after comparing 4 or 5 other dies I found them all to be .002" under nominal caliber dia, so I took another 6mm and whittled it down to .232". Should make seating a little nicer and should also help run out as with the previous ball I noticed a lot of neck expansion with bullet seating which is not good for accuracy.

I also checked bullet to land lengths last night and found that I can in fact seat to the lands with both bullets......the 100 gn flat base come out perfect with the bullet exactly at the base of the neck when touching the lands and the 90 gn RBT seats with the boat tail base just slightly below the neck junction. So it would appear that 1 caliber free bore is not excessive, in fact it would appear to be perfect.
I will be loading some test loads today using the COAL as determined by the land proximity and using fireformed cases in the chamber. I also have prepped another 25 cases and will be loading them and checking another powder or two. I will also be yanking the 6.5-20 off the 25-06 and using it for testing, the 25-06 has now officially pi$$ed me off and will be thrown in the corner until further notice.............

On another note of much greater pleasure the 325 WSM turned in some super groups considering that I just threw an old Redfield 2-7 on it and could barely see the tiny bulls I use for the bigger scopes and testing loads. I might start another thread for that and throw up some pics on there, it doesn't really belong here just mentioned it cause it was a bit of a highlight, given the 25-06 performance.

This thread has put me on the hunt for a lathe . I remember the days when I was machining and why I got into it in the first place . Good job Doug

This thread reminds me of how I have all of my fingers and toes and can count to twenty. Twenty-one if I am in the shower. By avoiding all power tools completely!

Well boys have to head north again, so y'all will have to keep the thread alive while I pack up some more gear and go kill a monster 80" moose.

I made up some more loads for the 230 Douglas but I doubt I'll have time to run them, loaded some more RL 25 and 90 gn RBTs .010" off the lands and I tried some US869 with the 100grnrs also .010" off the lands, it's probably too slow but I was able to get 69 grns in the 284 case so we'll see what it does when I get back and get time to shoot them over an Oehler...........

Got my new 22-243 reamer from Kiff yesterday so I'm set to build a 234 Hyrax next, got my oil problem sorted out and got a gallon of high sulfur cutting oil, it recut the chamber like butter, no drag what-so-ever. I also got a gallon of another Rigid oil specifically for cutting stainless, I'll have to give it a try as well.

Very happy to see that at least one rifle was made for the 23 Redundant. :)

Duh? Perhaps you should read the thread before making comments. Actually just had to look at the picture. Marshall was the first one to have a rifle built and he had a loaded bullet in pictures along with info on forming cases.

Don't waste your time on him.... After all, he thinks yet another .375 added on the pile denotes a cartridge of royal descent..... derp

Sorry 'Looky not going that way.........got to pick up a buddy in Edm who wants to come up for a week or so, so I'll be doing the Alaska highway.......as far as 80" moose go, I have found a nice area where no one hunts, and I have seen from airplanes and helicopters while working in that area, moose that were seriously pushing, if not exceeding 80". Anyway going to go poke around in that country for 10 days or so and see what I can dig up..........mid rut, of course;)...........
