234 Wildcat Family....ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

since when?

must have been before the 30WCF or the 30US. which if you ask anyone will tell you they are 30 caliber...

caliber has ALWAYS refered to the hole drilled into the bar..... When did the gunsmith/barrelmaking industry change the nomenclature?
For the same hole, caliber can be measured as land to land (british) or groove to groove (european). But by measuring bullets, it won't be that confusing.

30 caliber is a .308 bullet, the same as 33 caliber is a 338 bullet. However these 2 as well as many others do not cross any lines in bore to groove diameters so it really is irrelevant, however 243 is still a 24 cal as a 260, 264 and 6.5mm are 26 caliber............Regardless of what you believe all NA calibers and laws regarding calibers are based on bullet diameter or groove diameter.........PERIOD !!!! My 234 is a 23 caliber, because it's groove diameter is 234 it is not a 22 cal because it's bore is 228.

Yes.

Ordered 4 neck and throater reamers yesterday.........finally got a hold of Dave @ PT&G. I ordered 2 with standard .015" neck thickness and two for thicker necks of .019" for those who don't wish to neck turn cases right off the hop, just size down and go. In each neck thickness I ordered 2 different throat lengths, a one caliber and a 1.5 caliber. These two should accommodate the bullet lengths we are going to be playing with, and with the two different one can cut anything between 1 and 1.5 caliber as well.

Well boys things are coming along at breakneck speed here, what with the delivery Gods smiling on me with bullets dies it has moved the whole program more than a year ahead. 23 caliber bullets will be rocketing downrange before summer solstice and who knows but hopefully a critter or two may succumb to it's lethality this fall.

Don't think I can make it happen that fast 'Looky. Dave said he would put a rush on my N&Ts but I still doubt first week of May is a possibility. I will bring some different bullets that Marshal made up for me, just for your perusal........they is some sleek looking boolits let me tell ya !! Positively ###y !!!!
I'll also make up a line-up of the family of cartridges, to bring along for your perusal as well..........23-204, 23-250, 23-243, 23-284, and last but not least the infamous 23 PENGUIN !!!!

.23-243 makes the most sense to me... a 90 grainer would be more "Maureen O'Hara" than "Marilyn Monroe."

More like a 93 year-old former redhead than a dead blonde, I don't get that analogy. Between you and kamlooky, trying to figure out what's being said makes my head hurt>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>:p

the penguin was on the 6.5x55 case right? so a .23x55 ?

Actually to be more continentally correct.........it would be a 5.8X55.............But yes you are correct on the parental heritage of the Penguin.

I was just down fooling with dies and cases and also made up a 23-06 AND a 23 WSM.........anybody for a 23 RUM or a 23 Nosler (I just happen to have 50-7mm Dakota cases) or a 23-257 Wby or 23-300 Wby or how about a 23-378 Wby.........wait, I don't have any 378 Wby cases to play with, sorry........

Hoyt......never mind 90 gns how about 100 and 110 grns........BCs right up with the 6.5s...........Of course you like the 23-08, you love all things based on the 308.........Right?

Just looking at them I can see the Penguin and 23-284 becoming my pets, but the 23-204 is a ###y little thing too.........I may just abandon the 22-284 project ( the 22 Baboon ) in favor of the 23-284, I guess that would make it the 23 Baboon

geez ... you must be buying barrels by the pallet . some of those rounds you might be able to work up a couple loads , then the barrel would be cooked .....

that said , awhile back I was looking at a 284 win reamer and was thinking that a guy might be able to sink the reamer in and make a chamber fairly similar in size to the 7mm stw , a guy would just have to machine out the belt portion of the chamber later .
a guy might be able to do a full length 375 h&h case necked down to .23 , with the .23x284 neck and shoulder measurements .

Mig25...........all your examples are metric conversions and are really irrelevant to the discussion of what constitutes caliber........regardless of the naming of any cartridge it's caliber is designated by it's bullet diameter.

In North America I believe caliber is designated by the actual bore diameter measured in thousands of an inch, not the bullet diameter. .30 caliber is .30 caliber, not .308 caliber.

This also gets confused when the term 'caliber' and 'cartridge designation' is being used interchangeably.

I'll donate the 338-378 Wby cases just to see the results.
The major selling feature "no barrel cleaning required, ever!!!"
Just replace the barrel after each day out of the safe.

I don't know much about cars , but I do know the prices on classic cars have dropped substantially since 2008. I know I've seen them listed in VG and EXC condition for. $50-60-70 k. I remember it because I was sorta shocked to see a Testerossa for those prices, and I laughed because I briefly considered buying one.

I guess Google searching would give some more answers if brybenn really wants one :)

More like 6 figures actually. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/ferrari/testarossa/1640718.html

Keep it to the subject man, no one cares about your mid-life crisis. ;)
