243 win 105 berger vld, dead elk 688 yards

If it's not a commercial, then why does he have his website where he sells his fancy rifles and scopes platered all over the video. HMMMMM.:slap:

+1... he could give 2 chits if that poor girl shot that elk in the raera spine and it spent the rest ofits days dragging it's back leg anddied of blood poisoning...as long as he has youtube vid and makes his sales....

Many hunters take "unethical" offhand shots at under 200 yds, because at that range they are beyond their skill level. Does everyone shout at a moose that doesn't see them 50 yds away so the hunt can be "fair chase"? There sure are a lot over CGN members that are way more righteous than I am. Maybe I should stop having my "own" opinions.

people shouldn't take shots beyond there skill level... that is wrong...

Shootin' your first game animal at 688yards is easy if you buy the right products from the sponsor.

The guy in your avatar was famous for shooting animals with a hand gun at some of the ranges you happen to complain about. Half the crap you yap about at times makes you look like a hypocrite.

This whole threads response is 'tarded. The myths some of you believe with little to no practical experience and the super human attributes some of you apply to others is ridiculous.

I personally am sick of this emotionally motivated opinion and impractical spew. Before the next person says "if you don't like it leave", no problem. But I'm kicking the door off the hinges on the way out. :D

Do you know John? Have you met him? Did he kick your dog, and tell you untrue stories?

You seem to have a opinion based on actually experience with him personally. Either that or you like to spew crap with little or no understanding of the facts. Not defending the guy personally, but you've yapped enough to justify the guy helping you swallow chicklets where I come from.

And what is a raera spine?

Still don't get where you got the idea I caught ghey and took an affliction to the GB crew. As said before I just have respect for John, and many other long range hunters and shooters (Ian McMurchy comes to mind) who've dedicated large portions of their lives to something like this, and it tee's me off that nit wit's like you come out, knowing nothing of their work, gawking about how its all a commercial. You think these guys got a business degree, picked up a gun and started hitting stuff way out there? They spent years of their lives, unsponsored, shooting and learning.

OK, one last time, then I'm done:

No one is disputing Burns' ability, BUT HE DIDN'T SHOOT THE ELK IN THE VIDEO. It was shot by a novice hunter and it was her first big game animal and that at nearly 700 yards. Would you say that's a good way to start off a new hunter? Not even the best marksmen can dispute the fact it's a very difficult shot to make consistently, perhaps let her shoot something a little closer to boost her confidence.
Had the shot gone very wrong, like a gut shot, there's a chance she may not have gone hunting again. You think it's fair to her to risk that just in order to sell your product? That's what the argument is here. My $.02 anyhow.

If any of you actually think that any of these shooters, regardless of age have not had to practice at these ranges. Well ...
Another thing..GAME CAN GET WOUNDED AT SHORT RANGE ASWELL, FFS. It is hunting, it is the risk WE all take, if you want a guaranteed kill go to the grocery store, or shoot something in head gate.

But you know as well as I do that the closer you get to your quarry, the less risk there is, and the more sure chance you have of getting the good shot placement.

I'm pretty sure that elk isn't dead. I mean.....many on CGN have judged it impossible. They better have a good lock on their freezer, in case it comes back to life and jumps out!

:)

I don't see this video as being much different than a lot of stuff seen on Wild TV. All it needs is a fade away to some guy sitting by the fire saying [in a southern drawl]

"Well, that there looks like a great hunt. Them VLD's are an amazing bullet. And just like Kassandra, you to can take an elk at half-a-mile. Just send a check or money order to GREYBULLPRECISION..."

Yes, but that is there hunting style, that they like, choose, practice, etc.So let them have at er. It's not up to me or anyone else to say it's any less hunting then a guy hitting a twig in the bush and sticking the bullet in a elks ass at 25 yards.

John, how much time did the gal put in behind the rifle prior to taking her out hunting?

JohnBurns
I think she dry fired it 3 or 4 time before we went out and another half dozen dry fires on the elk.
..........Well that was the first and only shot she has ever fired at a big game animal.

Enough said, the guy's a boob.

Well I didn't realize that, now it is the most disgusting video I have ever seen. I have lost all respect for John Burns.

First deer I killed was with a longbow. No mentor. Taught myself to use a bow and wandered through the forest. I was 14 years old.

Just saw the little buck and shot at 30 yards.

I wonder if the elk in the video or the deer I shot at 30 yards with a longbow was in the most danger of being wounded and lost. Hmmm

You're right. Both acts were equally stupid. One was done by a 14 year old. One could expect stupidity at times. The other is a grown man using unethical methods to sell products.

On second thought, one is even more stupid than the other.

Bearkllr, and Huntin' Gun fire up the oven and throw a crow pie in there for me.

Waiting on Johns response to my question. But I may have just lost a lot of respect for a damn fine shooter.

I wouldn't have an issue if there was some serious training and some prior big game experience before attempting a long range shot such as the one taken.

That is some ego.
