25 Yard Freestyle Accuracy.....let's play a game.

Handloads. I'll try some different loads next time.
Well I actually sent it back to S&W warranty [Murray Charlton here in Canada] because I thought it wasn't up to par accuracy wise, but Murray Ransom Rested it and it's in spec according to S&W. It's getting 2" groups from a RR @ 20-25 yds.
Believe it or not it leaves the S&W factory if it groups 4 to 6" at that range. Well, a top notch custom gun these are not, but I've heard some guys getting 2" groups RR'd @ 50yds in the USA, but I haven't seen proof.

Fascinating, I didn't know that. Well in that case your shooting is exceptional. Not that far off what the Ransom Rest is doing for most guns that leave the factory! :)

One more time into the 25 yds. foray.
This time I put the Vortex Razor on again with a new Alchin mount and tried Cam Pro TMJ FP 158grs .357 diameter bullets with 3.0 grs of Titegroup.
Yes, .357 bullets in a .355 9mm bore.
Accuracy has improved slightly, but only limited by my abilities. Found out that the S&W 929 9mm has .357 throat, so no problem with .357 bullets swaging in that bore.
Managed a 98-5X.
In conclusion, I only do slightly better with a Red Dot accuracy wise and they are much faster in target acquisition.

Thanks. The 929 is not without it's problems. It's slowly turning into what it should have been.
Next is chamfering the cylinder for faster reloads and some more trigger work. Hoping to give the CDP auto loader guys a run for there money this summer.

This is not on the required target and was shot at 20 yds, but I was pleased with the results. Just getting used to my new Tanfoglio with Crimson trace. What would you score this target? Thanks

I watched an interesting you Tube video about how to shoot better groups.

The video reminds us that we have to be focused on the front sight, but suggests that we don't focus as hard as we should,. He suggested making a little mark on the front sight to focus on. I made a little mark, like this:

Tonight I tried it. He is right. I was able to keep my eye focused better than before. Scores are about the same, but it was much easier. I shot fairly quickly. 99-7X with the Ruger 22 and 93-2X with the M&P 45.

Fantastic!

This time with my CZ TS in 9mm. Loaded with 3.2 grs of Titegroup, 147 grs. CamPro bullets and Dominion primers with range brass.
Managed a 96-2X.
Kudos to those who can shoot better than me, but I stayed in the black again :)

Very good shooting. The TS is definitely a keeper.

Thanks all. I know the gun can shoot better than me, but it works well in our local CDP matches we have. I like the bigger grip than a CZ Shadow.
Changed it to fiber optic front and adjustable rear. I prefer this setup best in action shooting, but I believe a partridge type front sight would be more accurate for Bullseye.

Here's a pic of where I stood and shot these targets @ 25yds. It looks farther than it is and the big stick at the end is 50yds.

Well, happy to say I can now join the party as of Monday morning.

This is the 5th mag out of a very 'new-to-me' Hi Standard Victor (Hamden gun)

97-3x and I have no idea what I did to pull the bullet-hole-of-shame up there. Nothing like doubling the size of your group with one well-misplaced shot.

Shot at 25M outdoors at the CHAS range. I did shoot it quite quickly and was very happy to see this when I walked up to pull the target down.

Today was 45ACP carry gun night. 3 are 12.6. The RockRiver Compact is about 4.2" All have been tuned up a bit with trigger jobs. Each gun has a favourite load and that was used for this shoot. Sights are set to hit POA.

The Colt Officers Model has been easy to shoot and load for. It feeds everything reliably. At 2.3 pounds, it would be a heavy carry gun.

The Para Ord P12-45 (made in Canada) at 1.7 pounds would would be a great carry gun. With an aluminum frame, a steady diet of full power ammo might not be a good idea. It fits my hand well and is comfortable to shoot. For a double stack 45, is is not as fat in the grips as one would expect. I smile each time I shoot it because it is not fussy and is very accurate.

I have had the Star PD for a long time. I bought it new, before there was a 12.6 class. I have always found it accurate. The rear sight is click adjustable for left-right. At 1.6 pounds, it has an aluminum frame. I initially had some problems getting my handloads to work. I think it has a tighter chamber than the other pistols. Once I got my dies set up to make Star PD ammo, I was making ammo that would fit all the 45s. It looks 1911ish, but I doubt any 1911 part would fit.

The Rock River avoids 12.6 by 1mm. It is an all steel pistol weighing 2.3 pounds. Sights and trigger are excellent. The extra weight probably helps make it a good shooter.

It has been a while since I last got out to shoot. The new to me hunt camp has taken all of my time lately. I couldn't take it no longer and I had to get some trigger therapy. I see many more sessions are required but I am getting better at this game. Done today with my RIA M1911-A1 FS shooting American Eagle .45 ACP 230 gr FMJ. I filed down the front sight some and it seems to print better for me now.
