25 Yard Freestyle Accuracy.....let's play a game.

No. No dot nothing. I aim center mass. Equal light on each side of the sight. Dot superimposed to the X ring. After 20k rounds a year after years on a B27 or equivalent targets sight picture is now almost instinctive.
No neck hold. 9mm @25 meters will not drop. With the combat sights it is more a shoulder'ish hold. But again. Front post dot on the X equal light on every sides. Good trigger press. Only the front post is clear. I trust my front sights.

I am very pleased with tonight's shoot. I shot something I very seldom shoot - ammo loaded to full power. In 45ACP this was lead DRG bullets - the 200 SWC and the 220 FP. My "accuracy load" for the M&P 45 is the 220 over 4.3 gr of Titegroup. Most of my 45s prefer the 200 SWC, but the M&P has a slight preference for the 220. Tonight I tried the 220 with 5.0 gr of TG at 860 fps.

This string was shot in 25 seconds.

OK, before anyone starts counting, this group was shot from a bench. Just put a new Clark 6 1/2 inch barrel and a Trijicon RM01 red dot sight on my S&W Model 41. Needed to try the red dot as my eyes are getting "older". Anyway, spent some time at the range today zeroing the sights. And, behold, this thing really shoots (much better than I can), this group is a 100 with 9X, all in a group size of approximately 1 3/8 inch.

After zeroing, shot one magazine offhand with two-hand grip, group not as good (all within the black on a 25 meter target) , need a bit more practice to get used to the red dot (get used to and reduce the jitter). Anyway, will post after more practice.

Well that's pretty good Vet!

I have ageing eyes too and I thought red dots were the worst thing for us...? I know I had to give up on my EOtech on my AR because it just blurred and I started spraying my shots... I would be very interested to see how you make out with that. Do you wear glasses?

One Lung

Yes, I wear glasses. For open sights I use a prescription for computer glasses (focus point at approximately 30"), that way the front sight is in focus and clear. Tried these as well as regular shooting glasses with the red dot, the prescription worked best. Anyway, will experiment with the red dot and hopefully do better.

Later .....

nice set up and great shooting

So went to my range yesterday to try this out. I would like to point out two things, the targets I printed were undersize by a lot, as my wife just bought a new printer, and our target board is at a paced off 21 yards from the table, I shot one full magazine at each target from behind the table. My gun, a Ruger 22/45 was being a malfuctioning POS for some reason so that didn't help. I also had some Champion 25 yard targets that I shot after running out of the printed ones. I'm not sure how these are scored, but here they are.

Pic of my shooting area

The two printed targets

My best of the Champion targets

Couple more

Obviously I need some practice, I just got into shooting handguns about a month ago, it has taken a lot of practice to get to this point, and I have improved a lot (you should have seen the first targets, some I reuse a bunch of times because they were untouched :))

It's been over nine months, roughly 2000 rounds later since my last post. (page 11, # 105 and up)My groups improved, but i still can't do without one in the white...
This time shot with a Lipseys Flattop Blackhawk convertible in 45acp,Trigger job to sensitive 2 lb.,wich suits me well. Ammo was regular Blazer 230grs FMJ... 97-4X

I was the same way when I started trying this everytime you go to the range bring a couple targets with you and keep trying it's not an easy shoot to do.
