25 Yard Freestyle Accuracy.....let's play a game.

Hagler...the guy was asking if he was shooting properly, I think collectively we've set him on the right path (it's what Gunnutters do), but I really don't understand you're hard on for yours truly? You want to misinterpret what I write, go ahead, its a free country. I really am at a loss as to all of the rules and regulations you're posting as they are completely irrelevant to this thread and my posts?
What gives?

I went back to re-read the posts to see what you are talking about. Me thinks you are over-sensitive. Halger was not picking on you - just defining some of the words bandied about here, to make sure we are all on the same page.

I want to assure you that I have no such ###ual inclination.:runaway:

I only want to point out the difference between "Bullseye Shooting" and "shooting at a bullseye".;)

Took some of the big guns to the range. Rather surprised at the results.

I bought the JP Saur 40 years ago. I was shooting at the range beside the fellow shooting it. After each shot he would curse and shake his hand. He was shooting full power 44 Mag in a gun with a grip that bashes the knuckles. I turned to him and said "I'll give you $50 for it."

He said "Make it $55 and you can have the holster, too." I went home with it.

It has fixed sights. It shoots to POA with mild loads and about 2" high with hot loads. Hot loads are not comfortable.

The 44Mag ammo used today was 240 lead SWC over 6.5g IMR7625. This powder has been recently discontinued. Too bad, because it is a medium speed powder that meters better than Unique and is quite bulky. I found it an excellent general purpose powder.

This 8 1/2" Ruger Super Blackhawk is much more comfortable to shoot than the Colt clone. It has adjustable sights, too. Trigger is excellent.

My 4" M29 only cost $450. It is worth far more than that, but that is what happens with our 12.6 laws. I enjoy shooting it. It has been accurate right from the beginning.

Just a bump,so people don't forget to shoot. And something I always wondered about: Ganderite...you seem to have more guns than the governement ;o)) .If its in nobodys business, don't answer...but how many restricted and nonrestricted do you have?? Seems an easy 100. And you're the living proof, It almost never is the gun,it's the shooter...long guns, hand guns, you're a decent shot, no matter what use.

Don't know how many I have.

I wish!!!!!!!! Hope you have a gun room and not 100 gun safes lol. Still got to get out and try. I wonder if the SWF indoor range is 25 yards long? Driving 1 hour one way, to shoot for 30min until my hands freeze kinda sucks. But i will still try.

I took some 22s to the range today. I tried 3 different types of ammo in each. I was shocked at how different they shot. All 3 grouped fairly well, but the groups moved 5". !!

This is a very old Smith, dating from the 20s (I think). It was called a heavy frame 22 at the time, sicne it was built on a 32 frame. later they started to build them on K (38) frames.

This one has a very nice trigger and the thin front sight aims well. This was only the second time I shot it, so it was a fun experience.

Smith still make a 22 on a 32 from. The M34 "Kit Gun" is an example. This is a stainless one with a 4" barrel. My wife has enjoyed this one in her small hands.

The Smith 22s on a K frame are nice. This one is a M-18 with a 4" barrel. I have another one that looks identical, but it is a 357 (M19). This is what the group looked like after I changed from Lapua to Winchester. It grouped well, but the sights needed adjusting.

This group is not as good, but is better centered.

This old Ruger Mk1 is my original bullseye gun. Once upon a time I used to shoot 100s with it, one handed. It has a good set of target grips and a barrel weight off my Star 22 target pistol.

Nice guns Ganderite!!!

I want to play too! Think I will head out to the range with my Single Six this weekend. A hundred years ago I had the action slicked up by a smith and used it to teach myself the basics. It never seemed to care much about ammo brands. It shot Eley Match ammo about the same as Winchester Wildcats! All my .22's seem to be like that...the match stuff only makes sense if you are hunting medals at a formal competition...otherwise the accuracy gains are negligible...

Went back to the range to try some more guns.

First up is the 9mm Grand Power XTrim. When I shot it last time, it did not group very well with the load that works well in most of my 9mms (135 gr DRG lead RN over 3.6 gr TiteGroup). Today I tried that load again, just to be sure (it still sucked) and then tried 3 other loads I had on the shelf. One of them grouped very well. It was a fairly hot load, so now I know what direction to go in for further load development.

Then I tried my Glock 22. But this one has been converted from 40 S&W to 9mm. It was a real tack driver in 40, so not sure why I changed it. Of course, it can be changed back in about 1 minute. In theory this 9mm will have less recoil and muzzle flip. Sights need adjusting sightly.

My Norinco 22 is a fussy feeder. I plan to do some polishing and then try it with different ammo to find out what works.

Not a very interesting post I know, but I just wanted to thank your guys (especially you Clobbersauras) for giving me something to shoot for, so to speak. I've become very proficient at disassembling/reassembling guns and loading ammunition over the years, but actual handgun target proficiency has taken a backseat. I printed a couple dozen targets and will be bringing them along with my Stabila laser measure to the range next time to see how I fare. I don't expect much, but I'm still looking forward to it!

Glad this thread has got you excited to give it a try. 25 yard shooting is only a part of what I focus on when I hit the range, but being able to shoot decent at 25 has allowed me to be much more confident with the closer stuff.

I actually may push myself out to 100 yards next time, and see how it goes.

Finally got some cooperative weather. This was shot with my 617. I know I can do better.

This target can be purchased from WallMart and it matches the dimentions of the one posted here.

I'll try again using the posted target as I found the colored bulls difficult to make out at 25.
