The lady has kelled a nice bear with a small caliber rifle, she should be applauded, not chastised, which is the only thing I am getting from these negative posts.

i agree with ya;)

the ones leaving negative posts about this fall into one of these categories:

a)have never shot a grizzly before so they are just repeating what experienced hunters have said.

b)they feel that you should use magnums on all game

c)enjoy criticizing others achievments for self enjoyment

d)could never make the shot themselves and are jealous that a woman can shoot better than them.

i say great job and shes likely a better shot than me:redface:

I don't really bthink you could call that a negative argument , Gibbs, just a statement of preferance.

I myself would not use one either, but only because I would like to shoot one with a BP cartridge, somethinmg like my 577/450.

So, what does grizzly bear taste like anyway?

It tastes aot like back bear.

Which is to say, it's really dependant on what it has been eating..Fish eating grizzlies taste just as bad as fish eating black bears.

I'm not sure about negative but here goes.

Check!:)
Mind you I don't think it makes a view invalid.
b)they feel that you should use magnums on all game

c)enjoy criticizing others achievments for self enjoyment

d)could never make the shot themselves and are jealous that a woman can shoot better than them.

A point not mentioned yet is that there is a big difference between hunting a bear and (dare I say it?) bear defence. In the hunting scenario the bear (unsuspecting) is shot from a safe distance, in the other scenario he is killed at bad breath range. Speaking in generalities, an unsuspecting bear is not tough to kill, however once he's decided the fight is on that's another story. Much depends on the kind of country the bear is to be found in, but if the griz is found in a high alpine meadow, or on the tundra the advantages are all on the side of the hunter.

I guess the question is how likely it is for the situation to change from the former to the latter?
Surely it's the reasonable likelyhood of a hunter needing bear defense that makes someone hunting the bigger bears take a big bore or at least a heavy loaded magnum.
But that's really a little beside the point for this thread.
If Roy Weatherby could take just about every game with the .257 Wby Mag then clearly the 257 Roberts is also capable with the right load and a well placed, as is shown in this post.
