This grizzly was dropped with one shot from a .270 at close range. Geez, who woulda thought eh ;)

Was it sick or asleep when shot? :p

A 12 Gauge and a .270 is all you need to hunt everything on the continent. :p

No, just shot long ago before bears became indestructible killing machines from all the internet legends.

seems its almost daily i say "i miss the days when there was no internet"

you hit the nail on head with this quote.....270 can kill anything on the poll with one well placed shot....i hunt with one every year...i own big bores...but i dont need any of them LOL

I loaded my buddys 7RM with 160gr X bullets at about 2850 fps, about what a .270 does with a 150gr bullet. I'd say the performance between a 160 and 150gr bullet at the same speed would be pretty much identical...

Is the .270 my first choice for grizzly hunting? Nope. Would I use one if that's what I had? Sure. But I would make damn sure I was never put in a position where I had to stop a charge!:p

Although one of our members here stopped a grizz charge with a 7-08 and 140TSX IIRC...

I'm torn between a 30-06 and a .270 win right now. I hope to use my rifle for deer, caribou and bear. I know in Ontario you can't use 30-06 in certain areas so I am looking into this now.

Get the 30-06.
I wouldnt get a 270 just to be able to shoot a coyote or ground hog in southern ontario... theres better small calibers for that stuff.

Ive always said the 270 is too much gun for small game, and too little gun for bigger game. Although seemingly perfect for all game.... we have better choices.:slap:

You won't see any difference in performance on game between the two. Same bullet type with the same shot placement will yield the same results.

Anything on the N.American continent I would use it on, along with many other calibers that others feel "under powered".

A miss is a miss with any size caliber.

I believe a hunters constitution is far more important than the rifle which he uses. A confident hunter is a way greater tool than any rifle on it's own.

I am not a .270 guy, but we need to get over the caliber thing and select good, tough bullets and emphasize shot placement. With that said, the .270 will do any reasonable thing you ask of it. I think that the .30-06 gives a little more margin though ...

It sounds like the 270 is a great round for a canadian hunter. Grizzly seems to be the only animal on that list that is up for discussion.

The poll pretty much reflects my votes with two exceptions. Why do the elk and blackie guys seem to shy away from the .270?

cause the internet heros and general media would have you believe a 150gr projectile from a .270 will bounce off an elk at 50 yards yet a 180gr from a 300WSM will not only penetrate but destroy both shoulders, remove both lungs and cut and wrap said elk before you can walk up to it.... :stirthepot2:
