270 vs 30-06

LOL - Yes i'd hazard a guess that it's safe to say Gatehouse might indeed already know the answer to this :lol:
But yeah, really this is the kind of thing that i think would still go in the 'hunting and sporting arms' section.

I think I'm going to ask for a 27-06 at LeBarons. That should slow 'em down for a bit.
Well most people would agree that the .270 is a great calibre for everything up to Moose.
And the same thing can be said about the 30-06. I think the .270 shoots flatter and is a better long range gun... whereas the 30-06 can shoot much heavier, larger meplat bullets so it would be better for close range.
Both calibers can do double duty and fill the bill at all ranges and I don't think either is suitable for dangerous bears....
So I think the choice is obvious...... get the .270 in anything but a Remington 7600 :idea: ... because all the fellas that own pump-guns are limp wristed lollygaggers :shock: :wink:

I am a fan of the 30-06 but if I were to switch I would seriously look at a 7mm mag.
Out to 250 yds, if shot placement is good and bullet selection was researched I don't think any animal would know the difference, dead is dead.

The 30-06 is hard to beat, even though I start to think that I should own a .223 and replace all my other calibers with that little number :mrgreen:
Honestly, I do'nt see any real difference between those two fine calibers on game, the 06 and the 270, and still favor the 06 because of the versatility and availability of ammo and reloading componenets for that caliber everywhere.
Most of my medium and big game is shoot with various 30-06, as well as a number of grouse with slow velocity, 110 grain fmj bullets, and continue to do so, in the future.
