I used the 270 Win for years; shot a ton of stuff with them and probably was an out spoken fan. It always seemed to be enough. So far so good right? Its a great killer of deer sized game; and if you look around the world a bit that is just about everything. Thing is; I found out about 30 years ago that an STW would out-270 a 270 in every way you could measure or observe. It's also no 300 mag. It just isn't. It isn't even a 270 WSM or "bee for that matter. I still have a couple because I loved the rifles they were in, but seldom feel the need to grab one instead of whatever is in the racks next to it.
As hunters and gun enthusiasts we spend a lot of time splitting hairs that don't need to be split. In practice, and in most conditions much of this stuff doesn't matter. Its fun to debate, but much of what gets done doesn't even need smokeless powder never mind a fist fight over the difference between a 270 and a 30-06.
