That sounds great.
I'm working on having our "major match" the same weekend every year that way people can plan for it every year. We are currently working on a theme for it.
We are taking note....
We always run it the first weekend of October. We've been lucky with the weather but did have some snow last year.
Pack your buddies in the truck and drag your trailer up to the match.
PCFGA Team Match
As a part of your total expenses it's not that big a deal. It's $10 per match if you shoot 50 rounds.
The F-Class championships had PGW giving away a .50 cal rifle as the door prize. Also, a good prize table tends to get a lot of attention. To grow the sport, it would be nice if all of the ranges, in alberta for eg, could play nice, agree on some base rules, hold club level matches, and then hold an annual, or semi-annual, Provincial championship.

Thanks for the replies.
So it looks like a solid 2 day match is a basic requirement to draw people in from 4 - 8 hours away.
What factor would the following play?
- on site camping Yep, or resoanably close hotel
- prize table Don't really care
- round count Don't really care
- number of competitors Don't really care
- interesting reactive targets Stuff that we don't usually see would be cool, although I'm pretty spoiled since my local club has two texas stars, a death star and swingers, etc

I would really like to see a club series as well leading up to a championship.
It would be nice if the whole province was on the same page but it's probably a lot more important to have regional "sameness".
Having all of the Peace Country on the same page has been very beneficial.
I proposed this in a thread a year ago. It's not easy to do, but I think with David (Greenice) no longer doing the lethbridge 3G that we lost a major player in somebody who could help align the sport in the direction it needed to go.
First is common rules. More people are starting to do that.
The rest is volunteer work. Nothing will happen unless a lot of people help. From there, it's just formalisation, planning, and executing. Nothing terribly difficult.
My thoughts were:
1) First, common scoring/rules and tracking. Facilities like practiscore can manage this easily. Everybody would have to use it. Some already do and I'm pushing for CDTSA to adopt it. We used it for PRS.
2) Everybody proceeds as per normal with their local matches. Competitors can join and do as many as they want.
3) Annually have a regional competition, possibly S and N, then have one final one for Alberta where hopefully the top competitors show up. Results for the year can then be compared.
For prizes? Once again, that requires volunteer leg work. Even simple things like saying you compete in 3G / PRS / etc while in the stores helps show that people coming in the door are active shooting competitors. Competitors need lots of gear and lots of ammo. From there it needs people to canvas retailers for prizes and/or involvement. This can be a lot of work and we (CDTSA) simply don't have the people to do it. The more people help, the more can be done.
I know I sound like a broken record, but if you compete and don't help, please consider helping. Simple things can be done which greatly reduces the requirements of match directors and the few volunteers that actually make events happen.
For example, Ryan and I put on the simple PRS match a month ago. This took us 10's of hours each just in management, COF, and approvals. I had a trip or two to Milo for tests and layout, Ryan had a lot more. Ryan also put in lots of hours building props. Greg helped RO the day of the match, etc.
If it weren't for us three, the match wouldn't have happened. Simple as that. I've already mentioned that I will likely not shoot PRS, but will continue to help with the management / COF / sponsorship side of things. Others will need to pick-up the slack. I simply prefer other types of shooting.
Same goes for 3G where set-up is a lot more work. I've already proposed that every member competing must be there early to do complete set-up and tear down. Otherwise they cannot shoot. It's aggressive, but asking people to come out the day before and either drive 3-4 hours over two trips isn't an option for most. Mandatory involvement or turn people away. Guests would be an exception, but member involvement mandatory. I'll like to see this through because once again, 6-12 members put on events for 50-75 competing members. It can't continue like that.
PG will likely follow Lone Butte's recent matches in the coming year. Close enough that we can borrow steel and props if needed. Just getting ideas together. 3gn rules, tablets for practiscore, 10-14 stages 2 day match. Possibly august.

I am excited for next season.... it appears that a few clubs will be putting on some awesome 2 days matches.
Providing that clubs put out the info/registration for a large match with enough notice for competitors to book time off work/ make arrangements, I really think these bigger events will be a huge success!
You guys get 12 volunteers out to put on a match? Holy ####, that's good.
This is our fourth year of putting on a two day event. The third MP3G two-day of the year. All have been advertised well in advance both here, at the clubs, and on our FB page.
Don't expect piles of folks to beat your door down unless the 2-day is the only match in the area during the season. The attendance at the FSJ and GP two day matches was lower than any single day MP3G event this season. It's hard for folks to commit to the two day during the summer.
Our Team Match has never had more than 60 shooters.
Maybe it will be different in Central/Southern AB due to the higher population.
For PRS, it was 2 of us. 3rd helped as RO on day of event. I tried a last minute ditch effort for prizes with no luck. WRAS guys helped out a lot on the day of shoot as usual and even brought down prizes without being asked!
3G was 5 or 6.
I'm talking club wide, PRS, 3G, Cowboy, Pistol speed, etc. Now that I think about it, for competitions it's more like 8-10 do all the work.
~1300 members. About 40-60 actively competing in one or more shooting disciplines.
If you wanted to see well run events, Greenice put on a smooth operating 3G event every August. Volunteer work from the kids, 6-10 sponsors, 6-8 stages, active involvement by a lot of members, supplied food and water, etc. Showed how things could improve with more help.
