30-06 How many is too many?

I think some posters have hit the nail on the head. Each rifle for a different purpose. 25-06, 270, 30-06, 35 Whelan. 223 on the bottom, 375 on the top and it’s done. Damn, I need to start shopping.

I'm down to having only one 06. Great chambering and its not that I don't like them but for some reason I rarely have used one. To many other choices I guess.

Can't have enough. Finding rare and fine rifles is much easier if you don't mind them in 06. Also an excellent caliber for reloaders

Totally determined by your personal prefs. I target shoot, and I also hunt.
In similar specs, I have two 30-06's, two 270 win, one 7mm Rem Mag.

For medium game hunting purposes, each gun is similiar in terms of caliber and energy but, each cannot replace the other in terms of the firearms themselves. I plan to add a few 308s to the stable in the near future, but they will be primarily range guns.

One question I am curious about, for those who don't fancy the 30-06, how many of you are hunters?

Holy Hecka! 5 or so of the same Calibre, lucky in a way but crazy in another ha ha!

id have thought 2 was enough 3 on the occaison that it was a different sorta thing, eg - pump, bolt, 'lr specialty' along those lines...well in aus thats about it.

i personally delayed owning a 308 or 3006 for quite a while - cos erry damn bloke an his dog has one down under, so i tip toed either side for a while with 35 whelen, an the 270 win :D
then hada 308, got the 7-08 , an now own the 30-06 an just quietly,......love it.:stirthepot2:

No such thing as owning too many.......
I guess it depends on how and what a guy uses his rifle(s) for.
I suppose if it was strictly for target shooting, a 30-06 isn't most peoples choice.
If the user is all about tactical stuff, a 30-06 isn't an option.
If the user is a hunter, chooses his bullets properly for the particular game he is hunting, knows his rifles trajectory, has the discipline to know his own ability and limitations, and keeps his shots within a reasonable distance, you'd be hard pressed to show me any cartridge that is any better......
(I personally have quit hunting with 30-06 only because I prefer the rifles currently offered in short actions, but my 1950 brno zg47 and my 1959 winchester model 70 in 30-06 aren't going anywhere)
Yes I realize that magnums offer advantages once the shot is over 300 yards, and depending on how, where and what a guy hunts they have their place, but a 30-06 in the right hands is a formidable hunting cartridge.
I guess we will see how many rifles in SAUM, WSM, RCM, NOSLER, etc have the staying power of the old boring 30-06.......

If you asked my wife of 50 years she would say one was to many . I have two pre 64 wins a featherweight and a standard weight and a pair of Rem 760 carbines and I am taking them to my grave . I would buy another 30-06 in a heartbeat if it caught my fancy another woman not so much one is more than enough.

Only one at the moment is a Ruger M77 MKII Express... but over the years I have owned dozens... should not have sold my Browning B-78 Octagon 26", beautiful rifle and very accurate... one of many dumb firearms-related decisions.

Still just the one Ruger M77 Mark II Express .30/06... if I didn't have so many stainless .35 cal rifles, I could be tempted to add a stainless .30/06 also.

I am a hunter and favour the 308 over the 30-06. Why? The average 100fps more you get from the 30-06 isn't worth having the long action, heavier rifle. People argue you can shoot heavier bullets better out if the 06. Sure, but if I wanted to shoot 200+ grain bullets it would be looking for a 300 Win Mag. I mainly shoot 165 or 180gr.

Just my opinion, not pooping on the 30-06, it is a proven and great cartridge.
