Your level of shooting experience will determine to a certain extent your tolerance for recoil as well. I only started shooting a lot five years ago and at that time I couldn't handle a 300. I shot 25rds out of my H&H today (steel butt plate on a a Pre 64 M70), 20 30-06 with a plastic plate, and 20 303 with a steel plate. Tender at the end of the day but I was still able to call my shots so no flinch. If your tolerance isn't there yet, just wait a bit. Don't put a brake on. One shot without hearing protection in the field will cause permanent hearing loss.
That's an eyecatcher for sure Johnn !
When WSS had them on for $ 399 I couldn't resist and took home a .243.
The 300 Win. Mag. versions were long gone for that price..
. Thanks Johnn, the little 243 hovered around, the magic inch and then one day it made a 0.19" group with 60 gr. Loads followed by an average of 0.30 " for heavier loads up to 100 gr., so it will do..

.I'll say!! Nothing shabby about those results. Indications are the 300 WM I have on the way has shown similar accuracy results. Hard to beat at those prices.
Never brake what isn't broken. Better pad on the rifle and or shooting pad-vest or jacket. Never never brake it. http://www.chuckhawks.com/limbsaver_protective_pad.htm
