Whatever you do to soup up the .308 to mediocre .30/06 loads, you can do to the .30/06 to beat them.Judas

I don't have to read data for two reasons... One, I have been loading .308 and .30/06 for four decades. Two, physics.Go read some max load data pushing 180 pills on the 06…
Just 'cause you can do something, doesn't mean you should.Go read some max load data pushing 180 pills on the 06…
No kidding, right? This forum has been pretty good in terms of not being inundated with these idiotic bot-written posts. Another forum I visit (non-gun-related) is swamped with the things and it has become a real PITA wading through and ignoring them. Are we getting threads generated by AI now? Post #1 reads like a bad Google search result.
I've found 70 gr IMR 4350 behind any good 180 gr SP has worked well for performance & accuracy in any .300 Win Mag I've owned. I think the rated velocity is about ~ 2950 fps. Plenty for what I needed to do with it.That’s why I’m gonna get a 300WSM, short action with the same velocity as the 300WM with less powder.
The smaller-is-better crowd never seem to consider that. They always compare a smaller cartridge carefully handloaded with a super-premium bullet...to a larger one with the cheapest factory load you can get. Comparing apples to apples, the performance discrepancy remains pretty consistent.Whatever you do to soup up the .308 to mediocre .30/06 loads, you can do to the .30/06 to beat them.
You are comparing apples to cucumbers. What is your intended use of the rifle. ?
What were your reasons for choosing the 308 ?
My 300 Win Mag shoots as soft as a 308, thanks to the brake and recoil pad

Yup. I have old books by Jack O'Connor( who was no fan of larger bores) stating he was shocked the 358 winchester didn't really take off when introduced. He felt the 358 in light, handy rifles like the 99 savage or Winchester 88 or 100 would be ideal for close to medium range hunting of deer/elk, moose or big bears. Light and handy needs to be taken in context. In the 1950's a model 70 winchester weighed over 9 lbs scoped.358Win- the red headed step child of the 308 family! LOL
