308 and moose at 600m to 700m?

IMHO, 600 yard shots on any animal, are unethical for 99.9% of shooters.
It's a really good way to WOUND a fantastic animal that will suffer through a long, lingering death.

all you need is a Huskimaw scope and you too can be gut shooting moose at 700 yards
Its funny to see people's opinions on the topic assuming every person is as unskilled as they are.
I do agree to a point, but if you can go out in to the area you hunt, set up an 800yd target and make that cold bore shot with a rifle capable of enough energy to take down a moose at that range, I see no problem with it.
If you buy the right equipment, practice in real field conditions where you hunt and are more than capable of putting a round on target at that range, then there is nothing unethical about

Anyone who hadn’t been within 100y of the moose… probably hasn’t even tried. These are by far the easiest member of the deer family to get close to before the shot. Out here, you walk up to within 100 y before they even spook. My experience has been no different in heavy bush, aside from they are harder to find initially.
It is unethical to setup for a shot at that range because it is a low percentage shot. If you want to come home with a moose you setup for the highest percentage shot possible. Of course you pick a good spot and try to give yourself and wide field of view so if the animal does appear at a longer range and IF you have a good high percentage shot you can take it. A high percentage shot is one that considers all the factors involved like distance, wind, shooter's ability and yes, even their comfort (no shooting from inside the warm truck though). But the further you get, the lower the percentage of a clean kill. This fact does not change with the shooter's ability.
700 meters is low percentage for pretty much everyone. This of course is just my opinion. Each hunter decides for themselves how much chance they are willing to take. You can bet there are a lot of sharpshooters (I like that word) on this thread but I'm glad to see most agree and would not take a shot at that range. Setting up for a shot at that range is unethical. Don't you want to get a moose?

The range isn’t necessarily the problem. The cartridge certainly is. The commitment to investment for gear, ammunition, and obsessive practice is probably an issue too. The folks that can do this don’t need to ask if it’s doable. They have thousands of rounds of practice that prove they can. That being said, I’ve seen guys sit in a tree stand reading a book and occasionally looking around, because it’s far more peaceful than at home. Kind of like fishing with no hook. It’s the experience that is important to them.

Well over 90% of my moose have been shot at less than 100 yards.

I agree.. But that is maybe 2% of the hunters?
A guy at work has a goat draw and he has good intentions ? But when I ask about practise or even trigger time ? I get a blank?
Then ask about uphill and downhill shooting?? Same blank...

As far as the long range 'hunting' TV shows go, I'd really be interested in seeing what does not make it to the TV screen. I really would not want to be the poor hired sap that had to go out and deal with the ones that got away injured.
