So, I suppose the argument would be "A good rifle can fire any crap reliably" and I am not arguing that nor am I immune to "you get what you pay for" but...

Holy crap is this ammo garbage.

I had three types of ammo out with me this weekend as a comparison and both the others (Hornady BTHP match and Winchester Super X) ran without issue.

Rifle is a Remington R-25 using 5/20 Pmags

I put 20 rounds of the match ammo through without issue, got my zero and printed a few groups that made me happy @ 100M

For no reason other than curiosity I wanted to see how the Norc would do @ 100 and 300 so....

Loaded up 4 Pmags.

Put the magazine in, pulled back on the cocking handle, let her fly and took aim.

Click. Nothing.

The rounds didn't even pick up from the mag.

Tried again.

Nope, still wouldn't pick up so, I ended up doing it again while putting pressure on the bottom of the magazine.

Yay, round in chamber, go on.... or so I thought.

Click. Primer struck, fails to fire.

Ejected it.

Click, primer struck, fails to fire.

Ejected it.

Bang, yay, no wait. Double feed.....

Out of 6 magazines I was able to get 12 rounds to fire on their first or second attempt (refiring struck primer) but at no point did I ever get three consectutive rounds off without a fail to fire or a bad feed.

I followed up putting about 80 rounds of the Win SX through the same mags without an issue.

So I suppose my questions are... Do you guys with .308 AR's have this much issue with copper washed turds or is it just me and why wouldn't the round get picked up off the magazine on the load?

Before you ask, yes, I have a timney with a heavier spring that has no problem firing 7.62 NATO ammo with the thick primers.

So far the copperwash stuff being pretty reliable in all the 308 rifles i used it in, maybe a bad canister of ammo.... JP.

I get the odd issue in the stock xcr mags. I find the fourth round in is loose and this doesn't happen with say barnaul. These mags suck as well so it could be a combo of the norc and the asc mags. Ammo has been very reliable once it feeds...

Do you still have some of the fired cases and dud rounds? Could you take photos of the struck primers of both? For the feeding issue, the only thing that comes to mind might be that the copper-washed steel might have more friction than regular brass and the mag spring might not be lifting them all the way up. Did you notice any variations in the failures to feed from the first few rounds out of a mag and the last few?

I've seen other ar's in 7.62 with similar issues, with different ammo. Honestly, I think the platform may be a little soft on primers, because the same ammo fires perfect in mausers (Israeli and Peruvian) and m305's... This also came up with MFS .308 in my bro's AR, which then fired flawlessly in my guns...

POP

I refired every struck primer. They all went boom on the second go if they didn't on the first. Probably should have snapped a picture of that but it looked like a deep enough strike to fire. Having run the NATO surp before my trigger upgrade I knew what to look for. The stock trigger wasn't hitting hard enough on surp so I swapped it and it never had any propblem popping them after that.

Didn't notice any variation from the first mag to the last. Also, ran the Norc ammo between the Hornady and Winchester ammo to eliminate a fore/after issue.

Edit: I'll dig out some of the fired rounds when I get home.

5440 yea, thinking I should just run the WIN X as the cheap ammo and pass this off to someone with a gun that I know will run it without issue. I just don't want to unload crap on someone....

I appreciate the consideration but I will take this crap ammo...just ship it to me. I will pay shipping :)

So it looks like it runs fine in the older guns and not so well in AR's.

Ok, then I guess I'm forced to.....

Buy an M14.

Justification: This ammo isn't going to shoot itself.

I ran some of the norc ammo down my M1A and seem to cycle and fire just fine. What I didnt like was putting steel bullets down the pipe, too hard on the rifling.

DPMS LR Panther HBAR 308.... 140 rounds of PRC 147 gr copperwash, no malfunction with good accuracy ( this is no Match ammo), steel mag and Magpul mags... JP.

I bought a case of Norinco .308 for my RFB. After a round jammed in the chamber after firing a couple rounds I promptly sold the remaining 992 rounds on the EE. I had to hammer the case out of the gun.

Never again will steel case anything go in my firearms. People that buy high dollar firearms should be able to afford quality ammo to shoot out of them.

Exactly. Why destroy your rifle barrel? Stick with brass and copper/lead.

Norinco ammo will never be run through any of my rifles. It's garbage and my rifles deserve better.
