Here's a pic of the Voluntold.....bad news is I did check the twist today and Browning in their wisdom?? spec'd a 1-12" twist and that’s what I have Bummer, there goes the plan for those 200 grainers and up. Pretty much all the other makers use the 1-10" for their 30's. I guess I'll have to leave the tooth and claw critters to the 338 or the 458
Thanks for all the input, especially on the twist rate, I could have spent A LOT of frustration time on those 200's +..... I think I will go the 300 H&H route, based on nothing more than history and looks. Its basically a draw on ballistics and brass. I have another 30-06 bolt volunteer that could be used for the 308NM but nothing that can accommodate the 300 H&H length. I'll update the thread when I "get er done"
And I will update that hockey puck that used to pass as a recoil pad... over 30 yrs ago...

Here are my two, 300 H&H is the top rifle, 308 Norma on the bottom..
Those are really nice looking rifles Kevan....if only I was right handed. The good news about being a lefty....I have to limit my choice of rifles
otherwise I'd need shares in some safe making outfit

Kevan my friend, I would never insult either you or your wife (whom I have never met), I was just clarifying 'Looky's comment on the Mustang Ranch, as to where and what it was.............no reference to you my friend what-so-ever............
The Empire was done by the time the 300 H&H came along, from the country famous for bland food and unreliable cars.

I've been over 'there' three times now and was very 'skeptical' on the first trip. However, every trip since, I found I enjoyed more than the previous and look forward to the next. Something that has helped considerably to make our holidays as enjoyable as they were is my wifes relatives that were our guides.
The food, in some cases, may be bland as you say, but I don't remember having a pub lunch I didn't enjoy.
Our guides/relatives took us on a 2,000 mile tour.
Unreliable cars, I believe most of their vehicles are made by or under the identity of foreign manufacturing concerns. The Mini I believe is made by BMW.
Concerning their firearms, we stopped in at a couple of gun shops while there and for me, that amounted to the same as putting a kid in a candy shop. I didn't stop drooling 'til I left. I even got an invite to take part in a couple of sporting clay shoots

Used to be.
Now they eat curry and chips, electronics solved the reliability issues, and 99% of the population are strongly anti-firearms and anti-hunting.

Don't worry about it. Browning and Husqvarna have built their 30-06 rifles with 1:12 twists for at least sixty years, and they stabilize heavy bullets just fine. I have used the 200 gr Nosler Accubond spitzers, which are a very long bullet, in at least three Husqvarna 30-06 rifles with no problems at all.
They also stabilize 220 gr round nose bullets just as well.
Give them a try and get back to us with your pleasing results.

Really Ted?..........I would not have thought that a 1-12 would stabilize the long 200 gn SPBT, I have never had a 30 cal with a 1-12 twist, all mine have been 1-10, which I believe to be the industry standard. That's good to know, I was speaking from a theoretical standpoint and from the charts which give bullet length to twist rate and then factor in velocity. You however speak from experience, so I must bow to your knowledge.............Are they still stable at 500 mtrs and beyond?
