I have a rem 742 carbine, and a browning blr 81 both in .308. Looking at adding a bolt action for moose hunting. What would you recommend? Not looking to break the bank. But don't want junk either. Thx.

Sako Finlite. if memory serves 1600. I could be wrong. If that is too much Tika. 875 for a stainless. there is also the Sako A7 for 1000 but I have never used one.

I am all for a older ruger 77 ultra light .I just love these guns .still have the 22 250 and would love to find a few other cals 257bob would be at the top of the list for me .the older model 70 feather weight are sweet gun as well .the ruger in a 308 show up from time to time for a far price .Dutch

What's your budget? A Rem M700 SPS will do. The SPS is the same thing as any Rem M700 with lower end stock, etc.
Savage has started using Nikon scopes for their package rifles too.
Anyway, you need to decide how much money you want to spend on the rifle and scope.

Weatherby Vanguard.

There's a Ruger 77RSI in the EE.

But .308 is .308, why don't you want to use one of the guns you have?

I just picked up a tikka t3 lite stainless in 308 before xmas. I was out yesterday and shot 1 1/4" group at 200 and 2 1/4" at 300yds. Pretty impressed to say the least and it functions great and smooth and the trigger is awesome too.

Says who? Theyre ugly and uncomfortable. The stocks are horrid on them.
Says me ...... Can't speak for other entry guns, buy I've owned several X7s and they are not uncomfortable nor have a horrid stock. All have been very good shooters.

Lots of "better" guns are just as ugly incl the OP's BLR. :)
