308 vs 7mm-08 rem

Hillary is only electable if Trump is the option - if the GOP picks anyone but Trump, she's toast. Americans just don't like her, that's why Bernie the whackjob is giving her a run - normally a guy who calls himself a socialist wouldn't even be getting airtime in the US.

I bet you meant to post this somewhere else.

The 7-08 cartridge was designed by Remington specifically for 14 year old boys, it's parent-case is the .308WIN which was developed and marketed exclusively for the "wifey".
In the pursuit of an ethical and humane kill,an adult male hunter should use nothing smaller than a .375H&H to dispatch his annual whitetail dink.

I read this in a Peetersons Hunting magazine once.

Yes, written by a guy who on his way to the gun counter, had to go for a piss so stopped in the washroom.

Being the curious type he couldn't help but glance over to the next stall at another guy draining a vein.

And then, despite thinking he would like a nice new 270 when he started the trip, his mind quickly changed.

When he got to the gun counter he promptly asked to see a 340 Weatherby :)

Moral of the story, iff'n yer recoil shy, have a whizz next to a guy wid a wee weenie than yee.

Me thinks the OP should kissie up with the chap that writes hizz pay check before
investing in a new shooter.
Unless he is after vittles to feed himself.

Hey what's with the crack about my favorite cartridge ;)..........there is nothing upstaging about the 340 Wby, it is just a wonderful all around cartridge for any animal that walks this planet, from gophers to elephants, with the right bullets, and you won't be undergunned for any species, including elephants. I have shot smallish black bears and caribou with my 340 and it didn't make them blow to little pieces, it killed them the same as any other CF rifle of adequate caliber and left a small hole in and a little bigger hole out and did less meat damage than the 300 RUM by a significant amount. Don't knock a 340 Wby until you have used one extensively, it is an amazing cartridge, and would be my choice if ever I could have only one.

7mm-08 is a nice round...probably one of the best do everything short action cartridges with light to mid weight .284 pills.
I like it 2nd only to the 6.5x55....whose only fault is a long action required to max powder space.
Reloading is the way to go though... Start up costs are basically a few boxes of factory ammo.

Only solution to this problem:

Buy reloading setup, powder, brass, dies.

Buy 7mm08 rifle. Buy 30-06 rifle. Buy 300 mag rifle. Reload for all. Never overpay for a box of shells again.

Could not agree more having handloaded since the 1960s, I don't think I have a rifle that I've shot factory ammo in.
Cartridges like my 256 Newton have been without factory loads since the late 1930s so reloading is a must as are a lot of wildcats..

To use looky words, if ye gartz a big weenie, git uh .340 Nuff said???

.308 makes more sense, and if you handload (or heck, even if you don't with the plethora of .308 factory options), you can equal any 7-08 load's performance, and even trajectory. Run the 130gr TTSX through your ballistics program and take a step back when you see it shoots as flat or flatter than the 7-08. Reason is the .308 is more efficient at making use of the pressure from the powder, as a bigger bullet (piston) allows the pressure to push on a larger area... Meaning greater thrust on the piston (bullet). Simple hydraulics and old news to all here, but worth verbalizing for those new to it. So any slight advantage in 7mm ballistic coefficients is lost to the .308's greater efficiency.

I own a 7-08, and .308, I end up shooting the .308 a lot more as it's easier to feed and indistinguishable in performance in the field. I consider making all my small bores 7mms for component stocking simplicity, and the 7-08 would have a niche for me there. Still having a hard time getting rid of the .30's though.

Great points on the .308 Ardent. It's far more capable than the rap some give it.
