308 vs6.5 creedmore

The 6.5 RMag is Great & KOOL cartridge BUT THE facts are the 6.5 PRC is a Superior designed cartridge !

#1 the PRC brass length is 2.030 Vs 2.170
#2 the PRC shoulder angle is 30 degree vs 25 degree
#3 the PRC has NO useless belt
#4 the PRC has a couple of grs more powder capacity

Properly loaded the PRC will out do a 6.5 Remmy by a HAIR in Performance (fps) . :d RJ

And the 6.5 Rem Mag is better than the 6.5 CM for all the same reasons , aside from that weird belt phobia. So it goes. - dan

This 6.5 PRC reminds me of another under rated early 20th century cartridge; that Jack O’Connor was always writing about it…

No belt either

Is 6.5 creedmoor vs 308 the new 270 vs 30-06? I’ve never tried a creedmoor and while I tried to learn to love the 308 I’ve only had a couple rifles in it and it was because I wanted a short action

All four listed...barrels make for great tomato stakes! At least the suck can be necked from the 308... 6.5 is a half a mm away from greatness... and the 30-06... well...;)

Hold the fluff... and pass a 7!!!

The 6.5 CM should remind you of the .270 win, both 600 yard 2000 fps impact cartridges, one burns a bunch less powder doing it and fits in a short action. The 6.5 PRC is an 825-850 yard 2000 fps cartridge. The .270 wsm would be a better compare to the 6.5 PRC. For elrh shooting the PRC walks away from the wsm from 850 due to higher bc's.

All of the paperwork, keyboard pounding, and ballistic gack spew isn't going to convince many, if any, that have done it, to take a ELR shot at a critter larger than a deer with a 140 grain bullet... unless maybe it's a stunt for a TV show, to sell rifles and ammunition? And even then? Guessing it's been done tho, by some American show behind a high fence?
Just too many variables. A heavier bullet at the same speed helps reduce all of them. That's a difficult argument to "win", no matter what.

The Argentine Mauser is one that comes to mind for me too. 250 Savage must be a real sweet shooter

The 6.5 RM has more case capacity than a 6.5 PRC. I’m not sure it matters but let’s not tell fibbs

Well i THOUGHT it was the other way around But I don’t have any 6.5 RM brass to test fill up a once fired brass with a some ball powder and I will do the same with a PRC case and we will compare Kk ! RJ

Ah and No fibbing Bucky ! :p

I see on the inter web the PRC is 3 grs less than the 6.5 REM Mag . I’m prob wrong Sorry .

6.5 PRC 1x fire brass with primer in holds 69.5 grs RL17 Short stick powder And 68 grs H870 Spherical powder . RJ

Not to mention 8x51 in the Kurz Mauser. If the 7.65 and 8x51 were loaded to modern pressures I’m sure they would be all but identical to a 308 win

Sweet spot for the 6.5 and 350 RM's is in an intermediate length action, like a Mauser 98. Let's you load them out 3.2 inches, and use up all that case capacity. They end up a little quicker than their 06 counterparts. - dan

Into the cocktails? Do explain the formula change required in bullets and impact velocities when you crossover from long range to extended long range hunting? Placement number one still right? We talking about individual shooters now or are we talking about cartridges and bullets? So past 600 the animals have a secret shield all of a sudden? Let’s leave the shooters out of it. Whole nuther topic and bet we see eye to eye on that one.

No cocktails... just read? Can you do that?
