Well I think the first question is, what are you planning on doing with it? Hunting? Long range precision? Competition? etc
Target shooting and maybe some long range precision at some point in the future. After some more research I might have to revise the under $1000.00 budget.

My suggestion is to add 0.05"...
I’m a big fan of the 308. Easy to get components and easy to get to shoot. Under 1k is tough because you’ll probably get stuck with a plastic stock. Maybe buy something you can upgrade later. Or shop for a used one? My most recents 308’s are a Tikka and model 700 stainless in a laminate stock. Both are very accurate. The model 700 is always a good place to start if you want to upgrade later.

That is a factory Grade 3 Tikka Hunter. They sold them in Canada a few years ago. Originally 2k and only in 308win. Northpro had them for 1600 so I grabbed one. It’s a good shooter that one.
